The Florida Marlins fired hitting coach John Mallee after suffering their seventh straight loss on Wednesday.
The team named former major-league player Eduardo Perez, son of Tony, to replace Mallee.
"I don't think it's right, I don't think it's just," Marlins outfielder Logan Morrison said of the firing after Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the National League East rival Atlanta Braves.
"It's definitely not his fault the reason that we're struggling right now to score runs. We let him down."
Larry Beinfest, who is the Marlins' president of baseball operations, noted that the decision for the move was actually made prior to the 10-inning loss on Wednesday.
"We need to find a way to score some runs," Beinfest said. "We need to stop this. We need to win some ball games."
