Former Detroit Tigers closer Jose Valverde is on the verge of signing with the Miami Marlins according to Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes.com. However, Jon Heyman reports that Valverde is still talking with a number of teams, including the Marlins, and that nothing is imminent. The Mets were reportedly pursuing Valverde as an option to try and replace Frank Francisco as the team’s closer. The Mets front office has deep concerns about Francisco being able to close for them this season. Last night, several sources reorted that the Mets were close to signing Brandon Lyon as an option to close, but the Daily News followed with another report that Lyon is still negotiating with other teams. This Valverde deal could serve as a benchmark for a Brandon Lyon deal if it were to get done first. We’ll see. Original Post 2/1 Alderson is pursuing Jose Valverde to compete — or more likely unseat — Francisco as closer, a baseball source told ESPNNewYork.com. The deal with Scott Boras over Valverde wo...

Report: Jose Valverde Close to Signing One-Year Deal With Marlins

Jose Valverde led the league in saves two years ago and finished fifth in Cy Young voting. Now he’s without a home, although it appears that is about to change. The Mets do desperately need an arm in the bullpen to add some depth, and to replace their current closer...

This report proved premature, but the former Detroit Tigers’ closer is negotiating with the Marlins, as well as other teams, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. jose valverde is talking to a few teams, including the ...

Marlins Interested in Jose Valverde, But Not Close to a Deal

A couple weeks ago, I asked the question as to which team would be willing to take a chance on closer Jose Valverde, who has most recently spent his time with the Detroit Tigers. The Mets were interested in his services as insurance to Frank Francisco, but now that a deal looks to be all but complete with free agent Brandon Lyon, New York is no longer interested in Papa Grande. So...

Closer Look

Unlike other 2013 fantasy baseball rankings posts, I'm just gonna rank all of the closers in the format of every Closer Look I've done in the past. Unlike other Closer Looks, I put projections in. The setup men are in order in parentheses, and the relevant ones have projections, as well. Once Brian Wilson and Jose Valverde sign, I'll add them; neither are much more...
