The Kansas City Royals haven't had too much trouble with any opponent lately. That doesn't figure to change during a visit from the NL-worst Miami Marlins.
Wade Davis will try to lead the Royals to their 17th win in 20 games with another strong outing in Monday night's series opener.
Kansas City (61-54) has boosted its chances of ending a 28-year playoff drought with an 18-5 record since the All-Star break. The Royals bounced back from a 5-3 loss to visiting Boston on Saturday by holding on for a 4-3 victory the next day.
They scored all the runs they would need in the first three innings, and Alex Gordon hit his third homer in five games in the last of those frames. The win kept Kansas City within one-half game of second-place Cleveland in the AL Central and 4 1/2 back of Oakland in the race for the final wild-card berth.
"We're playing great baseball right now. We just have to maintain our focus on that," manager Ned Yost said.

The recent abundance of Kansas City Royals victories have come mainly against foes far out of contention. They're proving, though, that they can play with the big boys, too.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Royals right-hander Wade Davis wasn't sure how he'd feel once he returned to the mound after being away from the team for over a week.

Davis did not speak of his personal loss, though manager Ned Yost had indicated...
Every once in awhile, a team that is generally laughed at, pitied, or not taken seriously will come along and surprise you. This is the dream for small market teams.
For instance: since 1998, when Billy Beane took over as general manager, the Oakland Athletics have been to the playoffs on six separate occasions. They are headed towards a 7th birth under his watch this season...

The Kansas City Royals plugged their hole at second base by acquiring 39-year-old Jamey Carroll from the Twins. The Royals agreed to send cash or a player to be named later to Minnesota. The post-deadline deal fills the hole left by Miguel Tejada’s injury—which landed the surprisingly effective Tejada on the 15-day DL.
Carroll has struggled this season after...
It’s kind of rare that I take to the blog about a player from another team getting DFA. The Royals have DFA C Brett Hayes. The Pirates should be interested. Depth at catcher is a problem since Michael McKenry went down. No one is talking much about it but this team is a Russell Martin…

And now the Royals are eight games over .500 and they got there Monday night in a 6-2 victory over the Miami Marlins by overcoming some rare defensive bobbles through stout pitching and a balanced 12-hit attack.
