Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton is out of Monday's lineup against the Atlanta Braves with what the team is calling a right oblique strain. Stanton entered the day second in the NL with 34 home runs. He says the strain first popped up during a swing on Saturday. Stanton was in the lineup on Sunday, going 1 for 3 with a run scored. Stanton says he expects to be in the Marlins' lineup on Tuesday. Manager Ozzie Guillen says he would rather have Stanton miss ''a couple of days'' instead of potentially losing him for the remainder of the season, though added that he will evaluate Stanton's status on Tuesday.

MLB Rumors: Miami Marlins Setting Up Ozzie Guillen As Fall Guy?

The Miami Marlins have had a disappointing season in 2012, to say the least. They spent more money on three marquee free agents last offseason than they generally spend in a year on their entire roster. They brought in Ozzie Guillen to manage a team they felt should at least compete for a playoff spot this season. But with just a couple of weeks left in the regular season...

Marlins' Guillen is not concerned about his job security

The Miami Marlins are having a disappointing season, but manager Ozzie Guillen expects to return next year despite speculation that his job could be on the line. Guillen said the thought does not "go through my mind, 'Wow, I might get fired?' No. Sometimes you say, 'Wow, I wish I got fired because I can go home and relax and not deal with this anymore.' But...

Giancarlo Stanton Injury: Marlins Slugger Sidelined by Side "Tweak"

Miami Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton sat out Monday night’s contest against the Atlanta Braves after experiencing a “tweak” to his left side during a Saturday night at-bat.  Stanton hopes to rejoin the Marlins tonight, but manager Ozzie Guillen may be cautious and rest the slugger once again, reports Joe Frisaro of Giancarlo Stanton felt a...

Stanton out with soreness in side strain

MIAMI (AP) -- Miami right fielder Giancarlo Stanton was not in the Marlins' starting lineup against the Atlanta Braves on Monday, getting a day to rest what he and the team described as a strained muscle in his side. Stanton pointed to his right side when describing the injury and Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen described it as an oblique strain, though the team's official...

For the Miami Marlins to improve on the diamond, manager Ozzie Guillén must be booted from ‘The Gateway to the Americas’

Controversial Miami Marlins manager Ozzie Guillén has chapped the asses of the team’s suits and speculation is mounting that the obnoxious blowhard will be terminated shortly after the season concludes on October 3. The 48-year-old Guillén, who was suspended five … Continue reading →

Marlins go for a sweep of Cincy in series finale

While the Cincinnati Reds are still comfortably cruising toward the NL Central title and the Miami Marlins occupy the East cellar, the teams have undergone a bit of a role reversal this weekend. The Marlins will send streaking Ricky Nolasco to the hill Sunday as they bid for their first sweep of the visiting Reds in nearly a decade. Holding a double-digit lead with 16 games to...

Reyes helps Marlins beat Braves in 10

MIAMI (AP) -- Jose Reyes hit a two-out RBI single in the 10th inning Tuesday night, and the Miami Marlins overcame an awful ninth inning to snap the Atlanta Braves' four-game winning streak with a 4-3 victory. With one out in the 10th, pinch-hitter Rob Brantly was walked by Cory Gearrin (0-1), and Gorkys Hernandez was hit by a pitch. Following a strikeout, Reyes hit a blooper...

LeBlanc, Marlins lose opener with Braves

MIAMI (AP) -- Dan Uggla hit a three-run home run in the first inning, Martin Prado tied a career best with four hits and the Atlanta Braves beat the Miami Marlins 7-5 on Monday night. Tim Hudson (15-6) allowed a season-high 10 hits in five innings, still beating the Marlins for the fifth straight time. Atlanta -- which swept a three-game series from Washington over the weekend ...

Marlins' LeBlanc takes on the Braves at home

By sweeping a series from the NL East leaders, the Atlanta Braves have managed to stay in the conversation for the division crown. A far more realistic way to make the playoffs is securing the NL's first wild card, and a series with the last-place Miami Marlins should help with that endeavor, especially with Tim Hudson set to pitch. Hudson looks to win his fifth straight start...

Only Ozzie Guillen would try to justify Yunel Escobar’s situation

Ozzie Guillen is not the smartest man on the planet. I’m not the first person to make that observation and I guarantee you I won’t even be close to the last as long as he has an audience to speak to. Let us be clear Guillen like everyone else has a right to his feelings and the opportunity to create an environment in his home that he and his family find comfortable (more on...

Ozzie Guillen's take on Yunel Escobar is Guillen-esque

In light of this afternoon's press conference with Yunel Escobar's three game suspension was announced (and Escobar claiming that his hairdresser and interior decorator were both gay), Ozzie Guillen was asked to weigh in by Shi Davidi, columnist for SportsNet in Canada. Guillen's comments were typical of him at this point. Ozzie Guillen on Escobar: In my house...

Red Sox Live Blog: Boston Looks to Beat Toronto For First Series Sweep Since June

8 a.m. ET: It's been a long time since the Boston Red Sox (66-80) were able to come away from a series with a sweep, but they're poised to break that trend after taking the first two contests of this three-game weekend set against the Toronto Blue Jays (65-79). Do so, and the Sox pull into a tie with the Jays to leave the AL East cellar. Just how long has it been since the...

Game Picks - Wednesday: September 19, 2012

The one sure prediction from yesterday's Game Picks was the weather on the East Coast. Said it would wreck havoc on games and it did to the tune of three postponements. Of the games that were played, seven of twelve were correct. The Red Sox beating the Rays in a four-hour, nine-inning marathon was unexpected and the Rays look pretty well dead at this moment in time. The man...
