The Marlins after gutting their roster, have aspirations of not finishing in last place in the NL East. Up until recently, the team has been unwilling to trade Giancarlo Stanton. But according to Jim Bowden of ESPN and XM Radio, Assistant GM Dan Jennings stated that the team will listen to offers for Stanton but will not seek offers out and do not want to trade him. This statement may seem a little odd at first glance, however I believe the team does plan to trade Stanton, but for the few fans the Marlins still have, they can not publicly say they are. By saying the team isn't looking to trade Stanton and build around him, the fans will remain happy. But really, the team is listening to offers and will move on an offer that appeals to them. Any serious offer for Stanton, is going to involve at least two top prospects and possibly more. This morning, Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe suggested that if the Red Sox were interested in Justin Upton, it would take at least Xander Bogaerts and Matt Barnes two of the organizations top prospects for Upton who is not in the same class as Stanton. In three seasons, Stanton has hit 97 home runs 232 RBIs and owns a career line of .270/.350/.553. Image taken by d-deee and used under the Creative Common License Agreement.
