Marlon Byrd was not happy with his at-bat in the fifth inning. He came up with one out and runners at first and second. After hitting a double in the first and a homer in the third -- both off fastballs, -- Byrd was expecting some off-speed pitches. That's exactly what he got. The second pitch was a changeup outside that Byrd wanted to drive to right field and score at least one run. "I just got in front of it," said Byrd, who grounded out into a double play. "That's what I've been talking about. We have to execute and I didn't execute." Byrd, a true student of the game, relishes the chess match of the batter vs. pitcher. And he made the right call on the fact that Sean O'Sullivan would throw a changeup. He just didn't hit the pitch like he wanted. David Murphy did the same thing in the previous at-bat with two on and no outs. He got the fastball he wanted and was in front of it enough that he popped it up.
