Found June 28, 2013 on Mets Merized Online:
Michael G. Baron of SNY posted this info-graphic on Twitter after the game last night. Seeing his numbers jump out like that next to Justin Upton is mind boggling to say the least… Upton is owed $9.75M for 2013 by the Braves, and will earn an additional $14.25M next season and $14.5M in 2015. Meanwhile, Byrd is being paid $700K for this season by the Mets. Coming off that 50 game suspension after testing positive for performance enhancing drugs, I doubt there was anyone jumping for joy when Sandy Alderson signed Marlon Byrd to a minor league deal last February. I know I sure as hell wasn’t thrilled… Back then, Sandy said that Byrd would compete with Andrew Brown for a fifth outfielder spot on the bench. Try again… Obviously even the front office must be amazed by his performance thus far. Last season, Byrd earned $6.5 million in 153 plate appearances with the Cubs and Red Sox, he posted a combined .210/.243/.245 slash line. The 35-year-old has exceeded all expectations and earned t...

What’s the next chapter in Ike Davis’ future?

With Ike Davis tearing it up in Las Vegas, his return to the majors will happen at any moment now. As it is, the Mets will be facing a slew of lefties in the next 6-8 games and the Mets seem hellbent on recalling Davis when the time is right—i.e. when they are set to face a stream of righties. Obviously, Davis needed to be sent down in order to restore some lost confidence, as...

Shouldn’t Players Association Assume Some Responsibility In Cause Of Niese Injury?

Jon Niese is in the second season of a five-year, $25.5 million contract with the New York Mets. He can thank the MLB Players Association. Regardless of how this shoulder injury plays out, Niese will collect every penny, again thanks to the MLBPA. However, MLBPA should also bear some responsibility for the injury in the first place. NIESE: Cold conditions led to injury. For years...

2013 All Star Game Menu and David Wright’s Home Run Derby Jersey

Here’s a look at David Wright’s All Star Game batting practice jersey… It complete with the “C” as one of the official captains for the Home Run Derby. These are the jerseys that they will be wearing for the Home Run Derby and are different from the actual All Star Game jerseys that do not feature the skyline. Both Wright and Robinson Cano of the New York Yankees will don...

Mets 3, Rockies 2

Marlon Byrd hit a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning and threw out a runner from right field in the ninth to lead the New York Mets past the Colorado Rockies 3-2 on Thursday in a makeup game for the one that was snowed out on April 17. With the Mets trailing 2-1 and a runner on, Byrd drove a fastball from reliever Matt Belisle (4-5) into the left-center seats. That was about the...

Eric Young Jr. Is Making A Great First Impression

Small sample sizes be damned, but Eric Young has been going out of his way to display some of the talent that made this organization want to target him in the first place — and no, I’m not talking about the fact that he’s arbitration eligible. Picked up recently in a deal for Collin McHugh, who I can only wish the best to, Young has been tearing it up since his arrival in New...

Buck Wasn’t Happy About Being Lifted For Pinch-Hitter

John Buck wen’t 0-for-4 in last night’s win over the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. He struck out all four time to earn the dreaded Golden Sombrero. In my recap of the 3-0 win, I mentioned that it may be time to start giving Anthony Recker a few more starts – not so much because he’s that much better than Buck, I couldn’t honestly say that. But it would be good to...

Mets flamethrower Matt Harvey will start for the National League on July 16 in Queens

Despite fanning 11 and only surrendering one run and three hits over seven innings, Mets flamethrower Matt Harvey received a no-decision in a 6-4 loss to the Washington Nationals on Friday night in New York City. Yanked after 109 pitches with a 4-1 lead, even the 24-year-old Harvey (7-1, 2.05 ERA) couldn’t direct the hapless Mets to a victory. With a 32-44 record and jockeying...

Chopcast: Is Mike Minor still on All-Star pace?

ATLANTA -- After posting double-digit wins for the first time in 2012, Braves starter Mike Minor still has an opportunity to hit the 10-win plateau before the All-Star break this season. That's the type of improvement Atlanta has seen out of the young left-hander during the first half of the season -- not to mention his second-half run last year. But the question of whether...

Braves rumors: Atlanta interested in Cubs' Kevin Gregg

It was recently reported that the Atlanta Braves are expected to be on the hunt for relievers this summer. Atlanta's bullpen has been hit hard by injury, and as a result the Braves are expected to attempt to land at least one veteran reliever before next month's trade deadline, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com. Bowman adds that the Braves are one of many teams expected...

Atlanta Braves Retire Chipper Jones’ No. 10 Jersey During Pregame Ceremony

ATLANTA — Chipper Jones still can’t believe how much he’s adored in Atlanta. A near capacity crowd at Turner Field showered him with cheers and praise on Friday night as the Braves retired his No. 10 jersey. “It still doesn’t seem real,” Jones said. “I played baseball. I haven’t cured cancer or anything. It’s almost embarrassing to be getting all this attention...

Game Preview: Nationals vs Mets

The Mets, fresh off of a successful road trip, come back home to the Nationals tonight. It feels like, at least recently, that the Mets fall flat in Colorado but Byrd helped reverse that by hitting a go ahead homer late in the game and making a key throw in the next half inning to keep the Mets in the lead. How rude of me. I forgot to wish you a HAPPY HARVEY DAY. Matt will be starting...

Are Braves Entering Crucial Stretch?

No one will dispute that the Atlanta Braves have had a really good start to the year.  They are first in the NL East and have one of the better records in baseball.  They are also the only team in their division with a positive run differential.  I still have one big concern though, that continues to bug me. Have the Braves done enough?  What I mean by that is have they given...
