Leonys Martin homered and drove in a career-high four runs as the Texas Rangers roughed up Felix Hernandez and romped past the Seattle Mariners 12-4 Thursday.
The AL West-leading Rangers tagged Hernandez (12-8) for nine runs and 11 hits in three-plus innings. The former AL Cy Young winner's ERA climbed from 2.63 to 2.97.
Martin Perez (8-3) limited the Mariners to two runs and five hits in six innings. The rookie won his fifth straight decision.
Adrian Beltre, who hit his 28th homer, and Elvis Andrus each got three of the Rangers' 17 hits. Mitch Moreland also homered as every Texas starter got a hit except for Alex Rios, who chipped in with a walk, a stolen base and a run.
After working out of a jam in the first, it looked as if Hernandez would escape trouble yet again in the second. Martin spoiled that notion, though, hitting a three-run homer with two outs.
The Rangers added a pair of runs in the third on a line drive by Geovany Soto that was misplayed by left fielder Raul Ibanez. The ball ended up falling in front of a sliding Ibanez for a two-run single.
It got worse for Hernandez in the fourth as he failed to record an out, giving up two doubles and a pair of singles. Beltre greeted reliever Brandon Maurer with a home run.
Perez breezed through the Mariners, not allowing a hit until Kyle Seager's one-out single in the fourth. The rookie hasn't lost since July 21 and has won five times in August, a Rangers rookie record in a month.
Dustin Ackley hit a solo home run and an RBI double. Seager homered in the sixth, a drive to right that struck the window of the Hit It Here Cafe in the second deck.
NOTES: Hernandez matched the second-shortest outing of his career. ... Ackley is hitting .356 since the All-Star break to raise his season average to .253. He has two home runs in his last four games, after hitting just one in his first 85.

The Texas Rangers were without center fielder Leonys Martin once again last night due to his sprained right ankle, but he's hopeful that he'll be able to rejoin the starting lineup tonight. Texas is also close to activating Neftali Feliz from the disabled list, with Lance Berkman slated to join the roster early next month, according to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com.
If Kyle Seager of the Seattle Mariners could play all of his games on the road, he would be a beast. But since he plays half of his games in Safeco Field, he is merely a very good player and one of the young bright spots on his team. Most players prefer to play at home. Most players feel more comfortable at a place they play half of their games. But for Kyle Seager, home is a miserable...
Although most major league teams will be calling up minor leaguers on their 40-man rosters in September, the Seattle Mariners have had to open their presents a little bit early this year, with two of their top pre-season prospects making the big club earlier this summer. Those two, middle infielder Nick Franklin and catcher Mike Zunino, were two of the team’s first round picks...

No pitcher has ever lost more games to the Texas Rangers than one of the best pitchers in the game today.
That doesn’t seem to any make sense but it’s true. And Felix Hernandez suffered his worst beatdown by the Rangers on Wednesday afternoon as they ready for the stretch run.
Leonys Martin hit a three-run homer and drove in a career-high four runs and the Rangers rocked Hernandez...
Seattle catcher Mike Zunino cleared another hurdle in his comeback from injury, engaging in an encouraging round of batting practice before Saturday's game. The third overall pick in the 2012 draft, Zunino rocketed up the Mariners system before making his big league debut on June 11th. After posting a .242/.315/.343 in 29 games, the 22-year old broke his hamate bone in his left...
Ian Kinsler freely admits that his time as the Texas Rangers’ all-time leader in stolen bases will be brief.
Elvis Andrus is stalking him in second place nine back and will likely push past Kinsler early next season if current running trends continue.
But Kinsler showed Tuesday night that he is still a threat to take a base stealing third in a critical situation and putting himself...

(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated.) By KRISTIE RIEKEN AP Sports Writer Top prospect Taijuan Walker will make his major league debut for Seattle on Friday at Houston, taking on the Astros less than three weeks after turning 21.
It's quite the impressive feat for Walker, who was selected in the first round of the 2010 draft. But the talented right-hander is bit behind the pace...
Taijuan Walker has clearly been one of the best right handed pitching prospects in all of baseball for the past few seasons. Heading into 2013 was no different and we had him ranked as the M’s...

Rangers 12, Mariners 4. With AP Photos. Seattle manager Eric Wedge believes there is plenty of time to find some positives as the season approaches the final month.
For the Mariners to find those, though, they will have to rebound from the worst homestand in team history.
Seattle completed its first winless homestand of more than four games Wednesday, losing to the Texas Rangers...
"Oh" My!You might remember Wladimir Balentien when he played for the Seattle Mariners. He was an OK hitter—in parts of three seasons in 'The Show' hitting a grand total of 15 HRs.
