There’s a lot of reasons that a baseball player might pass on a comparable deal from one team to sign with another.  It might be overall team strength.  It might be size of market.  It might be hometown discount.  But not usually “I was on vacation and didn’t know about it.”  Well, this last reason seems to be the one that led Matt Garza to pass on signing with the Los Angeles Angels, instead inking with the Milwaukee Brewers.  According to @AdamMcCalvy of MLBlogs Network, Garza didn’t take the Angels deal because he didn’t know about it as he was vacationing with his wife in Turks and Caicos: “They offered, but it was more of a weird situation,” said Garza, who wound up getting $50 million in guaranteed money from Milwaukee. “I was on vacation with my wife and I didn’t want to be disturbed, and it was like, ‘Here it is, we’ll pull it in a certain amount of hours.’ I didn’t have a chance to respond, so I just said, ‘Whatever. It is what it is.’”  He added: “It wasn’t anything big. It was an offer and I said, ‘I’m on vacation. I’m not thinking about baseball, Dude. Me and my wife are enjoying ourselves.’” Garza may have missed a big career opportunity because he was on vacationCredit: Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports The Angels are considered a much stronger post-season contender than the Milwaukee Brewers, and I can tell you that living in Los Angeles might require a much higher cost of living than Milwaukee.  Garza later believe that everything happens for a reason (via MLBlogs Network): “I had no worries,” he said. “God’s going to make things work out either way. It is what it is. I guess you didn’t want me that bad, I take it. I found a team that wants me and makes me feel at home. I was looking for a great fit and I believe I found it.” They say in showbiz, timing is everything, and in this case, the fates of two franchises and one pitcher (and wife) hang in the balance of this missed opportunity.  We’ll see how it plays out! - David Whitlock Related Articles: Matt Garza rants on twitter after getting bunted on Matt Garza scratch tonight, traded to Texas Rangers Be sure to like our Facebook Page Check out Sports-Kings YouTube Channel Or follow us on Twitter - David Whitlock Follow @lhd_on_sports - Blog Follow @RBTS_baseball - Sports-Kings Follow @realsportskings The post Matt Garza passes on Los Angeles Angels offer because he was on vacation appeared first on Reading Between The Seams.
