Earlier this afternoon, the Chicago Cubs sent Matt Garza to the Texas Rangers for P C.J. Edwards, 3B/OF Mike Olt, P Justin Grimm and two players to be named later.
This trade is a great deal for both sides. Garza was a known commodity on a pitcher thin market and was most definitely going to be traded. Texas was in the running for him last season, until he injured himself in July and was out for the rest of the season.
Garza gives the Rangers a top of the rotation pitcher to create a nice 1-2 punch with Yu Darvish, as well as Derek Holland and Alexi Ogando returning from the DL soon. Although he will become a free agent at the end of the season, Garza can boost the Rangers for a pennant run with the possibility of re-signing him.
