For those of us who hung with last night’s (4/24) game vs. the Dodgers – and your intrepid columnist was barely one of those – there were numerous rewards. Working backwards, there was Jordany Valdespin’s walkoff grand slam, of course. There was the grit – Oh! That Word! – on display in the eighth and ninth, typified by Mike Baxter’s hustling double in front of the egregious Carl Crawford. There was the spectacle of Dodger manager Don Mattingly pulling Crawford – and not the pitcher – in favor of an extra infielder, a move rendered moot when Valdespin left the yard. There was the specter of blue disappointment when the Matt Kemp drove Matt Harvey’s elevated fastball barely over the right field wall – the nerve! – in the sixth, lifted by David Wright’s tying base hit in the ninth. There was the bizarro-world communication problem between the visitors’ dugout and bullpen in the fifth, snuffling the momentum of a Met rally and giving Dodger starter Ted Lilly a much neede

It was the Mets second walk-off win of the season and their...

John Buck and Matt Harvey are potential Mets All-Stars

The 2013 MLB All-Star game will be hosted by the Mets this season at Citi Field on July 16th, which is exciting in itself, but the potential of having multiple Mets representing the organization in the game could make it a memorable day for the franchise. The Mets have eight players on the ballot for the 84th edition of the All-Star game, which is voted on by fans: Ike Davis, Daniel...

Can Jordany Valdespin’s walk-off grand slam lead to better things?

Talk about a pick-me up! After an uninspiring first-game effort against the Dodgers on Tuesday and then failing to do much in Matt Harvey’s so-so start(at least by Harvey standards) to begin Wednesday night’s affair, the Mets appeared on the verge of dropping their second straight game to the Dodgers. The Mets were listless offensively for eight innings and were trailing the...

Valdespin Delivers a Big Hit for Mets When it Counts the Most

“IT’S OUTTA HERE, A Grand Slam from Valdespin to win the ballgame”, call courtesy of Gary Cohen. The more and more I watch Jordany Valdespin play, the more I like him.  Yeah I know, he isn’t in the plans and he is not liked.  What is not to like, I mean, he has speed, yes that has been noted, he can play the outfield, yes that has also been noted, and he has a flair for...

Jordany Valdespin’s isolated OBP, trusting Parnell, OBI% leaders

Jordany Valdespin had a strong Spring Training performance, where he posted a .361 on-base percentage. This came after a Winter League season in which he had 21 BB compared to 22 Ks. It had many people claiming that he was a young player who was figuring things out. On top of that, Valdespin got off to a terrific start the first 10 games of the year. He posted a .400/.478/.500...

They say Christmas comes but once a year. But we know better. We here in Flushing get to watch Matt Harvey, and every start has been dubbed "Matt Harvey Day". It's a little dangerous, considering that Harvey can't very well go eight innings and give up one run every game.He can't be dominant every night, and we learned that in his latest start against the Los...

Pie In The Face Was A Cheap Shot, Valdespin’s Teammates Owe Him An Apology

What was supposed to be a thrilling night after a dramatic walk-off win courtesy of a Jordany Valdespin grand slam has turned into an evening of anger and confusion. What the hell was the deal with that pie to the face by John Buck? Check out this GIF courtesy of @MetsKevin11 on Twiitter: That was messed up. It wasn’t just a pie to the face, it was more like an F-U Kid...

Valdespin takes vicious pie to face after walk-off grand slam

Jordany Valdespin, most recently best known for taking a 94 mph Justin Verlander fastball to the nether regions, took a another hard one in the face Wednesday night — and was all smiles after the hit. The brash New York Mets centerfielder jacked a 10th-inning, walk-off grand slam to give his team a dramatic 7-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers and save starter Matt Harvey...

Mets Look To Take Rubber Game In Today's Matinee: Mets Lineup V. Dodgers - April 25, 2013

The Mets look to take the rubber game from the Dodgers this afternoon at GHMP. Last night was an exciting finish to the game when Jordany Valdespin hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 10th for the Mets. More important was the AB the inning before, where Mr. Met himself, David "Captain" Wright hit a game tying single with two outs. Clutch hit for the Mets leader. Valdespin...

Valdespin Wins It With A Walk-Off Grand Slam In Dramatic 7-3 Win

After a David Wright single tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth, the Mets loaded the bases in the bottom of the tenth to set up a dramatic walk-off grand slam by Jordany Valdespin in the Metes 7-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The walk-off grand slam by Spin was the first in 23 years when Kevin McReynolds last did it in 1991. Matt Harvey started the game and didn’t...

When to start panicking…

Tonight I was watching the tail end of the Dodgers-Mets game.  Jordany Valdespin hit a walk-off grand slam to win it for the New Yorkers, and the only thing I was disappointed about was that he didn’t try to square to bunt for a squeeze play and then get hit in the nads again.  Anyway, enough about teams we don’t really care about…oh, did I mention that the Dodgers are getting...
