Joe Mauer is back in the lineup for the Minnesota Twins after missing six games to welcome his twin girls into the world. Slugger Josh Willingham may not be all the far behind him. Mauer was hitting third and playing catcher in the series opener against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night. Mauer left the team on the West Coast to rush home to be with wife Maddie, who gave birth to twin girls Maren and Emily. Both weighed in under 5 pounds, but are happy and healthy. Willingham has been on the disabled list since July 2 after having surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. He took some swings in early batting practice on Tuesday and hopes to begin a rehab assignment this weekend.

Minnesota Twins trade predictions

The trade deadline is coming up on Wednesday. The Twins are definitely sellers this year, and there have been a few names thrown out there as potential trade candidates. I know absolutely nothing, of course, except from what I have heard from rumors, and my basic understanding of what the Twins want to do with the long term. I also don’t have any big moves in my mind about what...

Dodgers acquire catcher Drew Butera from Twins

The Dodgers made a small deal at the non-waiver trade deadline, adding catching depth by acquiring minor leaguer Drew Butera from the Minnesota Twins. Butera has spent most of this season at triple-A Rochester, where he hit .218. In exchange...

Twins release Rich Harden at his request

Sometimes, the comeback trail doesn't end the way it's supposed to.  That's been the case for Rich Harden this year.  He has been rehabbing his surgically repaired shoulder in hopes of making a return this season.  However, as the date for his opt-out clause came near, it became increasingly evident that Harden was not making the progress he needed to make and he...

Twins trade catcher Drew Butera to Dodgers

MINNEAPOLIS -- Just when it seemed as if Major League Baseball's non-waiver trade deadline came and went quietly in Minnesota, the Twins snuck in a last-minute trade. They sent catcher Drew Butera to the Los Angeles Dodgers for a player to be named later or cash. Butera appeared in just two games with the Twins this year as a backup catcher, and has always been known more for...

WAIT JUST A GOSH DARNED MINUTE

I was all ready to write a lengthy post on how the Twins not making any moves was the correct move for the team to make, and then this tweet came across, shortly after the deadline expired Dodgers acquire catcher Drew Butera from Twins. — Tim Brown (@TBrownYahoo) July 31, 2013 Not making a move was the right move to make, but trading Drew Butera was even more right. No snark about...

Latest updates: the Pirates are or aren't interested in Justin Morneau, have inquired about ...

Justin Morneau's been a name that's been at least peripherally associated with the Pirates for most of this trade deadline season.
