Fox Sports North:
MINNEAPOLIS Joe Mauer is an All-Star once again.
The Twins catcher was named to the American League roster for the 2012 All-Star game. It will be Mauer's fifth All-Star appearance in his nine-year career and his first since 2010.
Prior to Sunday's series finale against Kansas City, Mauer was batting .325 with a league-high on-base percentage of .416. He has driven in 36 runs, hit four homers (including one Saturday) and 17 doubles. Perhaps most importantly, Mauer has stayed healthy this season. After playing in just 82 games last year due to injuries, Mauer has already played in 69 games in 2012, fourth-most on the Twins.
Mauer was also an All-Star in 2006 and from 2008-10. His .325 average is currently tops among all American League catchers and second in baseball behind Philadelphia's Carlos Ruiz (.358).
This year's All-Star Game will be played on July 10 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.

Minnesota Twins pitcher Francisco Liriano is a hot name on the trade rumor mill. A quick look at his 2012 season bears a striking resemblance to his career stats. His start on July 1st against the Royals was a 4 walk, 4 run no decision. In his previous two starts he logged 13.1 innings, surrendered 2 runs and 4 walks, while striking out 11.
In 2006 and 2010, Liriano was dominating...
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Joe Mauer homered, rookie Cole De Vries threw six strong innings and the Minnesota Twins beat the Kansas City Royals 5-1 Saturday to sweep a day-night doubleheader.
Josh Willingham and Chris Parmelee also homered for the Twins, who finished June with a 14-13 record -- their first winning month in almost a year.

If any player has been underrated for the Minnesota Twins this season, it very well may be reliever Alex Burnett.
The last time the right-handed Burnett gave up a run was May 23. He extended that scoreless streak to 16 total innings by tossing 1-13 shutout innings in the Twins' 6-4 win Monday in Detroit.
Burnett entered Monday's game with two outs in the seventh inning...
MINNEAPOLIS Cole De Vries got two hours to make the Twins' decision harder.
As the 26th man on Minnesota's roster per a new rule that allows teams to add a player for doubleheaders the starting pitcher knew his spot in the majors was tenuous. But after a six-inning outing in which he gave up just one run on five hits, De Vries made manager Ron Gardenhire's decision...
MINNEAPOLIS Minnesota's Darin Mastroianni hasn't gotten much playing time since being called up by the Twins in early May, but the speedy outfielder has now been in the starting lineup the last three games.
Mastroianni started in left field for the first game of Saturday's double-header and was then starting in right field for the nightcap. One day later, Mastroianni...
MINNEAPOLIS Twins manager Ron Gardenhire was asked earlier this week who he thought his all star (or all stars) should be this year.
It's a question that doesn't yield an obvious answer for Gardenhire, unlike last year, when outfielder Michael Cuddyer was the only logical choice. Cuddyer was not only Minnesota's most productive hitter in the first half of last season...

Catcher Ryan Doumit looked like solid trade material for a rebuilding team. Instead, he and the Twins agreed
Friday to a two-year, $7 million contract extension that could keep him in Minnesota through 2014. "There's
no doubt in my mind we're going to right this ship, and I'm glad to know I'll be aboard when we do," Doumit
said. Doumit, 31, is a switch...
Francisco Liriano is back?
That’s what people keep saying. All these different fantasy baseball “guru’s” have been pumping Liriano to the point that he’s the most added starting pitcher in ESPN leagues. He had three quality starts in a row, and since returning to the starting rotation has clearly been better than he was earlier in the season, but back? I don’t think so...
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Scott Diamond pitched eight solid innings, Trevor Plouffe homered and the Minnesota Twins beat the Kansas City Royals 7-2 in the opener of a day-night doubleheader Saturday.
Easily the Twins' most-effective starter since being called up in May, Diamond (7-3) allowed two runs and six hits to give Minnesota a big lift with another game coming up. Twins relievers...
Twins 6, Tigers 4. Updates. With AP Photos. By LARRY LAGE AP Sports Writer Trevor Plouffe hit a two-run single during Minnesota's four-run fourth inning, helping the Twins beat the Detroit Tigers 6-4 Monday night.

And the opponents for the NL squad should be / are….
Catcher – Joe Mauer & Matt Wieters
Both are big stars having big years. Exactly the sort of player the game needs to showcase. Jarod Saltalamacchia is having a breakout campaign and leading all catchers in isolated power but no-one is tuning into the All-Star game to watch him hit.
First Base – Albert Pujols, Prince Fielder...
