Justin Verlander’s 2012 All-Star Game start lasted just one inning, as he threw 35 pitches and coughed up five runs on four hits to an aggressive National League lineup. Max Scherzer’s outing Tuesday in the 2013 Midsummer Classic won’t be any longer, no matter what happens in the first.
Leyland said Max Scherzer will go one inning in the ASG because he threw "quite a few" pitches (122, most for him in '13) his last start.

Scherzer should be plenty rested coming out of the All-Star break, then. He lost to the Texas Rangers on Saturday night, spoiling his perfect 13-0 mark open the year. but he won’t make another start until Monday, July 22, when the Tigers take on the Chicago White Sox.
