Cameron Maybin’s rehab assignment with Triple-A Tucson has been temporarily stopped. “Technically we pulled him off the rehab to give his knee a few days to calm down” Padres general manager Josh Byrnes said Monday. Maybin hasn’t appeared in a game for Tucson since last Thursday when he came out after two at-bats. He had played in only five of a possible 11 games when he was pulled off his rehab assignment. His only hit in 10 at-bats was a home run. The immediate plan is for Maybin to remain with the T-Padres in case he can resume his rehab assignment. Maybin has been on the disabled list since June 9 when he suffered a strain of the posterior cruciate ligament in the Padres last game of their previous visit to Coors Field. He suffered the injury in just his fourth game back from his first stint on the disabled list. He had missed 46 games between April 15 and June 6 with two strained tendons in his right wrist Maybin 26 has played a total of 14 games this season and is hittin...

Tucson Padres’ Cody Decker Presents: “Brad.”

Look out Hollywood, there’s a new star on the rise and he’s coming out of Tucson. The Tucson Padres’ own self-proclaimed anti-hero and writer/director/producer/actor Cody Decker (who also plays outfield for the Triple-A club) has put together a new short film entitled “Brad” starring himself and several members of the Padres clubhouse staff down in Tucson. The movie, made...

Haikuarrhea: Week 19 in Padres Baseball

In an effort to stay close to our roots, the staff at Padres Public, will offer-up a haiku each Monday to describe the previous week in Padres Baseball. Restricting our feelings to 3 lines and 17 syllables to describe a week of play is a massive undertaking, but (un) fortunately, we are more than up to the task. The Padres were swept by the Orioles in a short 2 game set at Petco...

Daily Farm Round-Up: 8-11-13

3 different farm teams enjoyed 1-run victories tonight. Hunter Renfroe and Gabriel Quintana provided a solid 1-2 punch in the middle of the TinCap lineup. Renfroe had 2 hits, including a home run, while Quintana was a perfect 4-4 in the TinCaps’ 4-3 victory. Starter Johnny Barbato and Payton Baskette dominated for the Storm and the AZL Padres, respectively. Hitting Prospect of...

Padres Memorable Moments – Recap

Friday night the Ted Williams (San Diego) Chapter of SABR hosted the Padres Memorable Moments event at the Scripps Ranch Library.  As you may remember from reading about it here and here, Bob Chandler was to call the memorable moments in the old-style of sound effects and ticker tape. In the library auditorium a stage was set up. On the left was a desk with all the special effects...

While You Were Drinking: Game 118 (SD vs. COL)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after a night in the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking. Last night the Padres were thrashed 14-2 by the Rockies at Coors Field. You might think that you missed absolutely nothing but that’s not entirely true. It rained during the game and prior to a 1 hour rain delay in the 8th inning, viewers...

Padres and Pints: The Podcast! – Episode 2

After some computer issues delayed things last week on my end and Mike “no work computer good”, Melvin stepped up and edited the podcast like a boss. In this episode we discuss the many nicknames of Chris Denorfia, our expectations of the Padres going forward, steroid talk and discuss our Ben Higgins interview (that will be posted this week, as I plan on getting a new computer...

While You Were Drinking: Game 117 (SD vs CIN)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after a night in the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking. The Padres lost 3-2 in in 13 innings, after stranding 15 base runners while going 1 for 17 with RISP. In short, the offense blew. Ian Kennedy threw another gem, making only one mistake that pinch-hitter Xavier Paul turned into a 2-run home...

Daily Friar 8.13.13

The Padres lost a laugher last night. The game quickly got out of hand as Edinson Volquez couldn’t pitch yet again in Coors Field. This will be good to know for the Rockies once Volquez becomes a free agent. He gave up five early runs and that was enough for the Rockies to win. He left the game in the fifth inning after allowing eight runs, all of them earned. ON SALE NOW! Things...

Taking The Blame

First things first: I’m sorry for ruining the season. Six weeks ago I wrote about the Padres being buyers at the trade deadline, and they didn’t win a game for over a week. Two weeks ago, I wrote about how relatively durable Carlos Quentin had been this season, and how keeping him could end up paying dividends going forward. Quentin subsequently missed that night’s game, hasn’t...

Strange Days

Sometimes it’s tough to be a Padres fan. After Monday night’s game, which had a rain delay in the 8th inning despite the home team Colorado Rockies being up by 7 runs, I started thinking about strange things that have happened at Padres games I’ve been to or watched. The idea started out as a list with a possible poll included. Then I realized that a list with only a couple...

Guy catches foul ball in beer at Padres-Rockies game (video)

During Tuesday evening’s tilt between the San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, a fan made a nice catch of a foul ball off the bat of Rockies center fielder Dexter Fowler by utilizing the only receptacle he had available: His beer cup. Via MLB.com: Nice sudsy souvenir, sir. The only appropriate thing […]The post Guy catches foul ball in beer at Padres-Rockies...

Daily Friar 8.12.13

The Padres offense was absolutely dreadful yesterday. There really is no way to sugar coat this one and friends I would rather you hear the cold hard truth then to be smothered in lies. They had plenty of times to win the game but failed to do so as the one hit with runners in scoring position eluded them all day. Ian Kennedy pitched a heck of a game and made one mistake pitch that...

Padres-Rockies Preview

Sweeping a series from one of the best teams in baseball has the Colorado Rockies gaining momentum. Hosting the sputtering San Diego Padres could keep them rolling. The Rockies look to continue their success against the Padres in the opener of this three-game series Monday night. Colorado (55-64) and San Diego (53-64) are practically out of postseason contention barring an outstanding...
