It wasn’t much a surprise when the news broke that the O’s designated Cla Meredith for assignment. As I mentioned in a few posts ago Meredith has been having a lot of trouble this season. The 27-year-old has a 5.40 ERA in 15 innings with the O’s this year. Since his demotion in May Meredith has also been doing just as bad or even worse with the Tides. In five appearances with the Tides Meredith has a 13.50 ERA.

Designating Cla for assignment made room on the 40-man roster to add newly acquired utility player Jake Fox. Tillman was also demoted today to make room on the 25-man roster. The O’s decided to move Tillman to the bullpen after his last horrific start. Brad Bergesen will most likely rejoin the O’s from Norfolk to make a start on Saturday. With the acquiring Fox from Oakland, I wouldn’t be surprised if Atkins days are numbered.
