TEAMS: New York Mets, Atlanta Braves
Jonathon Niese pitched six-hit ball over eight innings, David Wright sparked the offense with a pair of doubles against Ben Sheets, and the New York Mets just hung on to beat the Atlanta Braves 6-5 Sunday night and salvage the finale of a three-game series.
A night after the Braves battered Johan Santana, Niese (9-6) tamed Atlanta's offense and stopped yet another slide by the Mets, who have faded from contention following the All-Star break. Niese matched the second-longest outing of his big league career, allowing one run, striking out six and walking two.
With the Mets ahead 6-1, the Braves loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth against rookie Josh Edgin. Atlanta scored four runs before Jon Rauch struck out Jason Heyward to end the game and earn his second save.

Post-Game: Mets Hang On…Barely, 6-5
Jon Niese tied his longest outing of the year going 8 innings against Atlanta on Sunday night.
The Mets entered Sunday night’s game looking to salvage a win from their three-game series against the Braves and did just that as Jon Niese had one of his best starts of the season, allowing only a Freddie Freeman solo home run and pitching a solid eight innings.
To sum up the first...
Can Niese and the Mets Pull the Sheets Over Braves Eyes?
Sunday, August 12, 2012
ESPN – 8:05 PM
Ben Sheets (4-1, 1.41) vs Jonathon Niese (8-6, 3.82)
The Mets and Braves play a prime time game tonight as the Mets try to forget everything about the baseball since the All-Star break. Last night was rough as Santana struggled allowing too many runs in too short of a period of time. Tonight Jon Niese looks to play stopper as he steps up...
David Wright: Money Isn’t The Issue
The New York Post reported earlier today that David Wright is more interested in winning championships, than the money he is bound to receive when his contract expires at the end of this year. David states “the money issue for me, I don’t think that will be deciding factor.” David, the fans like the sound of that, but you aren’t the first athlete to utter those words before...
Wright, Niese lead the way on Sunday Night- hold on in the 9th
David Wright and the New York Mets offense finally got it started on Sunday Night and they would help starter Jonathon Niese, who pitched outstanding against the Atlanta Braves.
They got it going in the very first inning as Braves starter Ben Sheets took the mound. Sheets’ first start of the season actually came against the Mets on July 15th when he defeated them, pitching six...
David: A ‘Wright’ fit for the New York Mets?
Should the New York Mets sign David Wright to a long-term contract?
Let’s be honest, the Mets’ nine game deficit in the race for the second wild card berth (which is a joke in itself) may as well be a million at this point. That is not to say that the Mets are out of it, but I think as fans we can all agree that the odds of the team finding some of that first half magic are...
Pre-Game: Atlanta Braves (66-47) @ New York Mets (54-60)
Let’s just say that Johan’s first start off the DL was not a successful one. That was one über ugly performance. Johan’s last three starts against the Braves have been just awful. 1 1/3 innings and 8 runs, 5 innings 6 runs, 1 1/3 innings 6 runs (4 earned).
For some unknown reason, ESPN/MLB has decided that this game is so big that it has been moved to an 8pm start. Luckily...
Mets News and Notes: Re-signing Wright, Dickey, Soccer Stadium, Byrdak, Davis
Mets have to make the Wright Move
Mets News and Notes:
David Wright told Mike Puma in the Post he's "optimistic" he will remain a Met long term. But, Wright added -- which consistently has been the case -- that it's ultimately about the opportunity to win. Wright said he won't negotiate during next season either. So essentially he signs an extension...

A Letter to the NY Mets Faithful From a Die-Hard Mets Fan
For the past 5 years, the New York Mets have seemed to keep the fan base motivated half way through a season until they somehow forgot how to play the game of baseball. I love the Mets (who doesn’t) but it does take a toll on me and I bet any other fan out there. The Metropolitans are not the worst team in their division (thanks in part to great play from R.A. Dickey and David...

Thank you, David Wright. You did more to help the Mets franchise than you'll ever know.In an interview with the Post, Wright revealed his priorities for the rest of his baseball life:
"The money issue for me, I don’t think that will be the deciding factor. You want to be able to win, and I’ve only experienced a little bit of that here. In a perfect world, we get this...
