Buffalo Gal’s come out every night when the Herd is in town Buffalo 4, Louisville 2 By Sean Kenny Starting pitcher Collin McHugh and company pitched a solid game, and some Bisons backups came through in a key fourth inning in their 4-2 victory on Thursday night to clinch at least a series split against the Louisville Bats. McHugh didn’t have his best stuff, as evidenced by it taking him 79 pitches through four innings while allowing two runs on four hits walking three and striking out two. McHugh’s greatest problem has been pitching deep into games at the AAA level, and hopefully for the bullpen’s sake he can start to stretch his outings. The bullpen came through huge today, with Jack Egbert pitching two innings allowing zero hits and striking out one to earn the win. Manny Acosta went two innings, allowing one hit while striking out four. Fernando Cabrera came out for the ninth and struck out one to earn his league leading 16th save of the season. Things Manny Acosta does well in A...

Chris Young is solidifying a very solid New York Mets rotation

During the New York Mets 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers last night, right-hander Chris Young tossed 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits, en route to his second victory of the 2012 season: Young retired the first nine batters he faced — striking out three — before hitting his only rough patch of the game in the bottom half of the fourth.  After three-straight...

Mets Prospects Cole Frenzel, Kevin Plawecki and Phil Evans Check In With MMO’s Petey

Your 2012 Brooklyn Cyclones (click any photo to embiggen) On Tuesday I spent the day and night meeting up with the Brooklyn Cyclones who were in Hudson Valley to play the Renegades. I came, I saw, I left. I even beat the crowd out of the stadium parking lot without running anyone down as they scurried for their cars. The game may have left the home crowd thrilled and elated, but...

Matt Harvey retired the first 14 batters he faced and tossed seven scoreless innings in Triple-A Buffalo's 8-0...

Ike Davis is leading all first basemen in RBI this month

Photo by Michael G. Baron New York Mets fans had a lot of concerns coming into the 2012 season, but Ike Davis batting over .200 probably wasn’t one of them.  However, after Davis started the season 0-16 through his first five games he’s had to battle mightily to do just that.  If his .185 batting average in April was frustrating, his .154 average in May was enough to drive...

Mets' Dickey sails through another start

When a pitcher throws two consecutive one-hitters, people take notice. When a pitcher with R.A. Dickey's unique back story does it, the result is a mass media overflow. Leading up to his uncharacteristically spotty start Sunday, the New York Mets' sensation fielded countless media requests on a daily basis, cutting into his preparation. Mets manager Terry Collins believes...

Improving the Bullpen a Key for New York Mets at Trading Deadline

The trading deadline is just over a month away and the New York Mets are in a unique position as buyers. The team's good first half and addition of the second wild card to the playoff format makes it more likely the Mets will have a chance to clinch a playoff spot. The problem, however, is that the second playoff spot opens up the race to a lot of teams, creating...

Post Game: Mets 5

Santana tossed 8 scoreless innings to lower his season ERA to 2.76 on the year. The Mets beat the Dodgers by a score of 5-0 today, clinching a series victory against the Dodgers. Johan Santana was dominant tonight to follow up Dickey’s dominating start last night. Santana went 8 scoreless only giving up 3 hits. The key for Santana tonight was he was successfully able to keep his...

Where Does R.A. Dickey Rank Among Omar Minaya’s All-Time Acquisitions?

Over his six year tenure as general manager of the New York Mets, Omar Minaya made hundreds of acquisitions. Hours of going over stats, phone calls with scouts, negotiations with agents, all in an effort to put the best possible 25 players on the field come Opening Day. Minaya had made some oustanding acquisitions over the years, others; not so great. R.A. Dickey was definitely one...

R.A. Dickey Back to Baffling Hitters

Before the seventh inning of last night’s game against the Dodgers, the only hit R.A. Dickey had allowed was a fly ball to left-center field that should have been caught by the centerfielder Andres Torres. As legendary Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully put it during the broadcast, “The Dodgers have been flailing away at R.A. Dickey. That’s the best word I can come...

The Worst Contract in Baseball Is???????

I have been trying to figure out which of the $100 million contracts is the worst in baseball.  I believe that I have figured it out.  I know there will be disagreement and I know some may argue.  However, I believe I have my answer.  Although I hear he is one of the nicest guys in the game of baseball, I believe that the New York Mets contract signing of Jason Bay is the worst...

Daniel Murphy Finds HR Stroke

MURPHY: Homers twice. Slides often end this way, with the Mets taking out their frustration of the last four days with a 17-1 mauling of the Cubs this afternoon. Daniel Murphy, who hadn’t homered since last July, went over the ivy twice to back the solid pitching of Jon Niese. You can’t call this a turnaround game unless they reel off a few more, but it was a good start heading...
