Shaun Marcum is in New York and ready to make his Mets debut on Saturday against the Phillies, Mets manager Terry Collins said today. Marcum threw 52 pitches over five scoreless innings in an extended spring training game Monday and later threw more pitches in the bullpen. Robert Carson and Brandon Lyon are not available out of the bullpen tonight according to Terry Collins. Jeurys Familia might not pitch either, Collins said. Lucas Duda is a first baseman by trade, but Collins will reluctant to move the left f

Niese Leaves Game With Apparent Leg/Ankle Injury

Jon Niese was just removed from the game after being hit by a batted ball while trying to get out of it’s way. He dropped to the ground in pain, but left the field under his own power although with a noticeable limp. Robert Carson came into the game to replace him. Of course we’ll let you know more about the severity of the injury as soon as we learn more.

Mets Announce Niese Has A Bruise, X-Rays Negative, Day To Day

Updated 8:30 PM The Mets announced that Jon Niese has a bruise, but that X-Rays were negative and are saying he is day-to-day. Good news, to say the least… Original Post Jon Niese was just removed from the game in the top of the third inning after being hit by a batted ball by Mark Ellis while trying to get out of it’s way. He dropped to the ground in pain, but left the field...

Matt Harvey’s Starts Are The High Point Of Every Week For The 2013 Mets

For those of us who hung with last night’s (4/24) game vs. the Dodgers – and your intrepid columnist was barely one of those – there were numerous rewards. Working backwards, there was Jordany Valdespin’s walkoff grand slam, of course. There was the grit – Oh! That Word! – on display in the eighth and ninth, typified by Mike Baxter’s hustling double in front of...

I Hate To Be The Pessimist Here, But I Have Some Issues With The Whole Marcum Deal

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York (who else), posted the full details of the deal the Mets signed with Shaun Marcum. The one-year deal guarantees him $4 million as well knew, but here’s the breakdown of the other $4 million he can earn with incentives: – $250,000 apiece for reaching 120, 140, 160 and 170 innings. – $375,000 apiece for reaching 180 and 190 innings. – $500,0000 for...

Shaun Marcum officially starting Saturday for Mets

The New York Mets' Shaun Marcum will start on Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies after successfully coming through another rehab start on Monday. The Star-Ledger's Jorge Castillo tweeted the news Monday afternoon after Mets manager Terry Collins made the announcement: Collins said Shaun Marcum flew up to NYC today and he’s officially Saturday’s starting...

John Buck and Matt Harvey are potential Mets All-Stars

The 2013 MLB All-Star game will be hosted by the Mets this season at Citi Field on July 16th, which is exciting in itself, but the potential of having multiple Mets representing the organization in the game could make it a memorable day for the franchise. The Mets have eight players on the ballot for the 84th edition of the All-Star game, which is voted on by fans: Ike Davis, Daniel...

Game Chatter: Jonathon Niese vs. Clayton Kershaw (4/23/13)

They say Christmas comes but once a year. But we know better. We here in Flushing get to watch Matt Harvey, and every start has been dubbed "Matt Harvey Day". It's a little dangerous, considering that Harvey can't very well go eight innings and give up one run every game.He can't be dominant every night, and we learned that in his latest start against the Los...

Can Jordany Valdespin’s walk-off grand slam lead to better things?

Talk about a pick-me up! After an uninspiring first-game effort against the Dodgers on Tuesday and then failing to do much in Matt Harvey’s so-so start(at least by Harvey standards) to begin Wednesday night’s affair, the Mets appeared on the verge of dropping their second straight game to the Dodgers. The Mets were listless offensively for eight innings and were trailing the...

Ellis homers twice as Dodgers top Mets, 7-2

NEW YORK (AP) -- Mark Ellis lined two home runs and hit a hard grounder that sent Mets starter Jonathon Niese limping off for X-rays, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers over New York 7-2 Tuesday night. Ellis got four hits and drove in four runs. He hit his 100th career homer in the fifth inning, then connected for a tiebreaking, three-run shot with two outs in the seventh. Ellis had...

A Unique Path To A Loss

I hate games like this. When Jon Niese was hit in the ankle in the third inning by Mark Ellis and had to leave the game on Tuesday, with Clayton Kershaw on the other side, I was thinking, "well, this game is shot to hell, so I'll save my angst for what the Rangers do against the Panthers, or better yet I'll save my angst for a double dose of explosion on Thursday...
