The Mets are interested in signing a veteran middle infielder to back-up Daniel Murphy and Ruben Tejada.
Theriot is 32 years old and has played in Major League Baseball for seven years. He also has a career .282 batting average; so he definitely fits the title of veteran middle infielder.
Theriot led off 83 times for the Cardinals last season, and that is definitely saying something (given that the Cards won the 2011 World Series).
Unfortunately, Theriot is probably out of the Mets’ price range at this time. But, we’ll see.

Wilmer Flores might want to forget about 2011
In a post to Baseball Prospectus, Kevin Goldstein takes a look at 10 of the league’s better prospects who might want to forget about 2011.
For instance, he writes the following about 20-year-old Mets SS Wilmer Flores:
“Flores has long been seen as one of the Mets’ top prospects, but that’s mostly been because of his age and level. In 2011, he proved to still be...
A Letter To R.A. Dickey
Dear R.A.
It has come to our attention that you plan on doing a charity junket to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, in Africa.
Although we are sure that it is for a worthy cause, unwed mothers is that right? As your employer the N.Y. Mets respectfully request that you reconsider.

Is Eric Young Jr. On His Way to the New York Mets?
Aside from a Tuesday during the Winter Meetings, the New York Mets have remained quiet this off-season. Perhaps things will pick up if some more of these teams would stop talking and start moving some pieces. Some of the latest chatter links the New York Mets to the Colorado Rockies’ Eric Young Jr. The 2B/OF presents an intriguing target for the New York Mets. Ranked...
New York Mets to Eliminate A Minor League Affiliate
In an effort to save some money, the New York Mets are going to eliminate their Gulf Coast League affiliate. According to General Manager Sandy Alderson, the New York Mets lost $70 million last season. I’m assuming he’s referring to losing that money as a result of the St. Lucie Mets’ operations. That does seem awfully high for a rookie level affiliate that only...
Year In Review: That's A Wrap on 2011
So that's 2011. When this site started in 2006, the Cardinals won the World Series. 5 years later, the Cardinals won the World series again. Every hack column you've read about the year in review probably started "They'll never be another year like 2011..." While that might be the most awful way to start a post ever, in our case, it's absolutely the truth...
MMO Exclusive Interview: Mets Prospect Scott Moviel, RHP
I got a chance to talk with Mets right-hander Scott Moviel just after Christmas and he was nice enough to bring us up-to-date as far as his progress in 2011. Before last season Scott was battling knee troubles which can be problematic for a pitcher who stands 6’11″. Now healthy once again, he provides us with some very interesting insights on the challenges he is taking...
