Earning his second start in as many nights, Jordany Valdespin rewarded his managers decision with a two-hit, two-RBI effort.

Prior to Tuesday night’s 5-0 victory, New York Mets manager Terry Collins explained that he was giving Valdespin a second consecutive start because “he’s adding some spark, he’s adding some energy,” according to Kieran Darcy of ESPN New York.

Valdespin collected his first hit of the evening — a lead off single — in the bottom of the sixth inning.  He scored the games second run just two batters later when Lucas Duda launched his 11th home run of the season.   Just one inning later, Jordany extended the Mets lead to five runs with a two out, two-run single, plating Josh Thole and Andres Torres.

“I can run, I can hit, I can throw — I can do everything,” Valdespin told reporters following the Mets 5-0 victory. “When I get the opportunity, I’m going to play hard and show everybody I can play here.”

Valdespin is doing just that of late.  The 24-year-old rookie is showing the potential to hit at the Major League level while making the most of the opportunists he has been given.  In his back-to-back starts, Jordany is 4-for-8 with a double, a triple and two runs batted. And is batting .333 (8-for-24) with seven runs, and eight RBI over his last eight games, lifting his season average from .152 to .222 in the process:
