PLAYERS: Jon Niese
TEAMS: New York Mets

The Mets are listening to offers for Jon Niese, the 25 y/o left hander is a lifetime 22-23 in 65 starts over four seasons (two partial/ two full seasons).

It doesn't hurt to listen but it seems odd that the Mets who don't have major league pitching depth, would actively shop their #3 starter who is a young, inexpensive, lefty and they will control for four more years.

My guess is that if Niese is truly that available it's because the Mets feel he'll garner the best package while being replaceable.

There are reportedly several teams but the Mets don't feel anything is eminent...

Trade For Niese Unlikely Tonight, But Things Could Change Quickly

8:00 PM Andy Martino of the Daily News, asked two Mets officials if Jonathan Niese would get traded tonight. They responded that it was unlikely, but warned that things could change very quickly. Martino also said he believes just about every Met is being dangled, except for R.A. Dickey. A source told him that Dickey is unlikely to get moved this Winter. 5:30 PM According to Jon...

Mets Being Aggressive; Discussing Ike Davis

The Mets are being aggressive at the Winter Meetings, tweets Joel Sherman of the New York Post, talking about everyone except David Wright.  Sherman says the Mets are talking with suitors seriously about Ike Davis, whom the Mets insist is fully healthy.  The Rangers are known to like Davis, he adds.  Davis, 24, missed most of the season with an ankle injury.

Andres Torres looking forward to joining Mets

“Last year, I battled a few injuries, but this year, I’m going to be ready. … [The 2010 season] was big, we won the World Series and I had a big year. I was a big part of that. I know what I can do. I’m going to go strong, and I’m going to do my best out there. … I know some fans maybe say, ‘Oh, this guy didn’t have a good season,’” he said. “But I’m going...

The New Evil Empire

Through all the pain and suffering that has befallen us Mets fans this past week, and these past years, it is very easy to lash out. To get mad, to get irrational. I myself have been guilty of it when I lambasted Sandy “Sand-bag” Alderson in a comment thread the other day. But I have to reel myself in for a minute. I have to get my feet back on the ground. I need to remind myself...

Mets Lose Rhiner Cruz

The Mets pitcher Rhiner Cruz is taken by the Astros.

Mets moves not sexy, but make sense

DALLAS — None of this replaces Jose Reyes, especially when it comes to filling seats. No one ever bought a ticket to specifically watch Jon Rauch pitch. But the Mets made a series of incremental moves yesterday designed to — at the least — bring competence and competitiveness to their 2012 team while...
