Matt Harvey has looked a bit more human of late.  While he has still been more than impressive this season, Harvey has allowed eight runs in his last two starts.  This could be a result of reduced control thanks to a blister on one of his pitching fingers.  And the New York Mets may give Harvey some rest to let the blister heal. According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, Harvey did not throw a bullpen session between his last two starts.  He did not want to aggravate the blister before pitching against the Giants.  However, it may be best, he takes some time to let the blister heal completely.  Harvey is not blaming the blister for his struggles though. "It kind of started not the last start, but the start before," Harvey said. "It's no excuse for my poor pitching. And I feel fine with it. I just have to figure some things out and get back out there. ... The feel of certain pitches is a little bit more difficult than others, but like I said, I can pitch with it. I'm just getting through it. I didn't throw a bullpen at all this week. I'm not going to make that an excuse for anything."  Harvey has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season despite his rough couple outings.  Overall this year, he is 7-2 with a 2.27 ERA.  In his two seasons of Major League ball, Harvey has started 28 games.  He is 10-8 with a 2.42 ERA. If the Mets do have Harvey skip a start, it would come against the Pittsburgh Pirates.  At this point, there is no reason to press Harvey into action.  So if he can't pitch at 100 percent, the smart decision is probably rest. Harvey’s Diminished Effectiveness After 100 Pitches Thrown

As I mentioned in my previous post, Matt Harvey threw a season-high 121 pitches last night for the second time this season. Here’s some interesting data from ESPN on Harvey’s diminished effectiveness when he surpasses 100 pitches. There’s a clear case to be made to be wary of using Harvey after 100 pitches anyway: According to ESPN alumnus Steve Glasser, tonight marked the...

The All-Star Game and Matt Harvey

Matt Harvey starting the all-star game on Tuesday at Citi-Field would be a dream come true for him, the organization, and Mets’ fans. Except, I have a HUGE problem with what the Mets are doing to make sure that happens. I know, I have no idea what the Mets are actually planning doing with his start and I understand a lot of it is hearsay, but from what I am gathering, the Mets...

What Message Are Mets Sending With Matt Harvey?

The New York Mets officially pulled the plug on Matt Harvey’s start Saturday in Pittsburgh, but did they do it for the right reasons? Was it to give his blisters a chance to heal and begin a program to limit his innings or prepare him to pitch in the All-Star Game? Or, is it a matter of coincidence as to the timing? The Mets did not pull the plug on the All-Star Game, and if the...

Rather than throwing against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday, New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey should rest with Anne V

Battling a stubborn blister on his right index finger, New York Mets manager Terry Collins may shelve Matt Harvey on Saturday against the Pirates in Pittsburgh. “I didn’t throw a bullpen at all this week,” said Harvey, 24, who would likely use the day of rest to penetrate Anne V. “I’m not going to make that an excuse for anything, but there’s definitely some adjustments...

Terry Collins and the flip-flop on Matt Harvey’s health

Anyone who was paying attention while Bush the first was in office remembers how six words came back to haunt him. During the campaign he famously said, “Read my lips: No new taxes!” And of course he raised taxes and ultimately became a one-term president. This is just one of many cases of a politician doing what we call a flip-flop. Meanwhile, prior to Monday night’s game...

Terry Collins’ Obligation With Matt Harvey Is To Mets, Not National League All-Star Team

His marketing dilemma is understood, but New York Mets manager Terry Collins would be making a mistake if he were to juggle Matt Harvey’s spot in the rotation, or even cut it short, just so his young ace can start Tuesday’s All-Star Game. As of now Harvey’s next start would be Saturday in Pittsburgh, which would leave him enough rest to throw two innings Tuesday.        ...

Matt Harvey is among the professional athletes who will appear in ESPN The Magazine’s upcoming “The Body” issue. But before he bares all, the New York Mets pitcher showed off his style sense in a shoot for the New York Post. Harvey, who revealed that he loves high-end fashion, modeled a range of lux designs from a Gucci tuxedo, Michael Bastian evening jacket and Marc Jacobs...

Mets Native American Heritage Day will not Include Native Americans

The Mets, who would rather have Matt Harvey pitch 2 innings of no hit All Star ball than win either of his next 2 real starts, are stupid. When the Mets approached the American Indian Community... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~

Game Preview: Mets @ Giants

Happy Monday Harvey Day! The Mets travel to San Francisco tonight to take on the Giants (I guess that’s not really surprising. A surprise would be the Mets travel to San Francisco to take on the Golden State Warriors, which I’d also pay to see). Anyway starting for the Mets today is new anointed All-Star Matt Harvey who is looking to rebound from his worst start in his career...

Mets-Giants Preview

The New York Mets' Matt Harvey is hoping to start the All-Star game in front of his home crowd at Citi Field next week. Delivering a strong showing in front of NL manager Bruce Bochy would surely help his chances. Harvey has an opportunity to impress Bochy and add to the San Francisco Giants' recent woes Monday night in the opener of a four-game series. In his first full...

Kershaw: Harvey should start ASG

Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw, who leads the majors with a 1.89 ERA, endorses the idea of Mets righty Matt Harvey starting the All-Star Game at Citi Field. "He should," Kershaw told "There's no reason, especially if it's in New York, that he shouldn't start. That's what the fans will want. I've got no problem with that."...

Boomer Esiason, "Jesus Matt Harvey is Getting Bad Advice."

Mets pitcher Matt Harvey, veteran of all of 28 games, is this close has become an insufferable douchejuice. First, Harvey's nude photos for ESPN The Magazine were revealed -- then this morning... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~
