MLB Injury News:
It's always interesting and nerve-racking to watch a pitcher return and throw for the first time since Tommy John surgery. That's exactly what Mike Pelfrey did yesterday. The New York Mets' pitcher made his first start since undergoing surgery May of 2012.
Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com says Pelfrey looked solid in his return and had decent fastball velocity.
Pelfrey, making his first start since Tommy John surgery on May 1, was sitting at about 88 mph. Avg fastball velocity for career is 92.6 mph

Pelfrey's return is impressive because he is pitching in a competitive environment again less than one year after the surgery. He is further proof that Tommy John surgery is not as frightening as it used to be and that players can rehab and get back on the field in less time than they used to be able to.
Pelfrey will be a key part of the Mets' rotation this year. He was drafted by the Mets and has spent his entire career with New York. This will be Pelfrey's eighth Major League season.
In his career, Pelfrey has a 50-54 record to go along with a 4.36 ERA. He made just three starts last year before going down with the injury. In those three starts, Pelfrey looked good. He posted a 2.39 ERA.

The Mets’ first spring telecast from Port St. Lucie was this past Saturday (2/24). This was good news on several fronts. It pointed out that spring – the actual season, spring – is, indeed, on the way, that we here in the chilly Northeast will shortly be freed from this bleak midwinter. It evoked a coming time of short sleeves and short pants, those days of soda and pretzels...
It took until the Mets’ fourth Spring Training game for the team to finally be outscored, so that’s good. Although New York lost to Washington last night 6-4, there were a number of positives to take away. For one, Wilmer Flores looked comfortable at second base.
I wondered earlier this month about the longtime prospect’s future on defense. Based on how they are playing him...

MINNEAPOLIS — Twins for a Twin.
The Minnesota Twins say All-Star catcher Joe Mauer and his wife, Maddie, are expecting twins. Media relations director Dustin Morse made the announcement for Mauer in a tweet. The couple married in December.
It’s only fitting for Mauer, who was born in St. Paul and cheered for the Twins as a boy, then was drafted No. 1 overall by his hometown team...
Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins announced that his wife is pregnant with Minnesota twins, and yes, our jokes about it are terrible.
What the hell is this?
Not sure what picture I’m showing you above, but it appears to be friendly Minnesotans(?) – possibly twins, smiling and giving each other a hand hug. Bad news guys, the Twins are not going to give you much to smile about, except the overwhelming flavor bomb you’ll get when you shove a jucy lucy in your cold weather thickened body. Outside...
The New York Mets took a chance nearly two years ago when they traded an established outfielder and clubhouse leader in Carlos Beltran. Beltran, who still ranks in the top ten in several offensive categories in Mets history, has recently stated that their gamble paid off.
At the time, the experts proclaimed that the immediate winner in the Wheeler-Beltran deal was the San Francisco...
As MLB spring training is officially underway, we have our first home run robbery to take note of.
In the seventh inning of the Mets/Nationals game on Tuesday night, New York outfield prospect Matt Den Dekker took what appeared to be a home run from the Nationals Anthony Rendon:

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) -- As news spread that Joe Mauer and his wife are expecting twins in August, the All-Star catcher had two hits with an RBI, a walk and two runs scored to lead the Minnesota Twins over the Baltimore Orioles 7-1 on Thursday.
Josh Willingham boosted his spring average to .727 with a pair of hits for the Twins. Willingham also drove in a run, drew a walk and scored...

The bullpen allows 11 runs to score, doing in the Phils as they lose their third spring training game, dropping this one to the Twins, 12-5.
The Phils took the lead in the first as, with two men on, and with one man out, Ryan Howard hits an RBI single, knocking in Ben Revere, who had started the game off with a single, then stole second base, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead, while sending...
