Recent Wright contractual rumors… Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports: The Mets offered Wright a six-year, $100 million contract extension on Monday, according to major-league sources. November 27, 2012 Can now report Mets have made Wright a 7 year offer well in excess of $100 mil, according to industry sources. Negotiations in process. — Andy Martino (@SurfingTheMets) November 27, 2012 Told #Mets‘ offer of extension to Wright yesterday was 6 yrs./$100M. Source today says team offering 7 yrs. between $125M and $150M. — Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) November 27, 2012 New money that #Mets offered Wright in seven-year extension is $119M-$129M, according to source. Updating my earlier column now. — Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) November 27, 2012 Rosenthal also points out that it’s $119-$129M ON TOP of the $16M he is owed this season… Important! The Mets WILL reach an agreement with David Wright. I guarantee it. Ryan Zimmerman and Evan Longoria, comparable players, have both recently added six years and $100 million to their contracts. David Wright is worth a lot. But, he is worth more to the Mets than any other team. Wright represents something none of their other players represent because he is a veteran homegrown player, and the Mets know that fans will literally revolt and not attend games next season without Wright because they like Wright a lot and because the Mets will win less games without Wright.
