TEAMS: New York Mets
As you have probably heard by now, the music injury lost a legend on Friday with the passing of Adam Yauch. Yauch, who went under the stage name MCA, was a member and founder of the famous hip-hop group the Beastie Boys. He had been battling cancer since 2009. With their most popular days having come in the 1980s and early 1990s, there are likely a lot of players currently in Major League Baseball who grew up listening to the unique sounds of the Beastie Boys and watching their whacky music videos. As you can see from the video above, the Mets decided to pay tribute to Yauch during their game against the D-Backs on Friday by using Beastie Boys songs as their at-bat music. It was a nice gesture from the team to honor a musician that probably influenced the middle school wardrobe of a Mets player or two.

Ruben Tejada’s MRI reportedly ‘not good’

The New York Mets won Sunday’s rubber-match game with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday afternoon but lost their starting shortstop, Ruben Tejada, to a right quad injury in the process.  Tejada was attempting to bunt for a hit in the fourth inning with the Mets up two runs and was successful…..sorta.  The young shortstop seemed to tweak something while running down the line...

Looking for rotation help beyond Schwinden and Batista

I like Chris Schwinden and think with patience he could be a back-end starter or AAAA backup for most teams.  However if the Mets are going to try and stay relevant in the NL East and in the 2012 season they cannot continue to toss Chris out there every 5th day… at least not with the general quality of our other four starters.  So is there a solution externally or internally...

Bay Still Not Close To Returning, Murph Bats Fifth, Dickey Takes The Hill: Mets Lineup V. Diamondbacks - May 6, 2012

Mets LF Jason Bay, who is eligible to come off the DL this week, is still a long way off from returning to the Mets lineup.  Mets manager Terry Collins said, "The other day his ribs were still pretty sore when he laughs or coughs."  Collins further said that Bay will not come off the DL "for awhile."  Chris Young is scheduled to make a start in PSL on...

Mets News: Steve Matz Says Elbow Not Feeling Right

In response to an MMO Ask Petey mailbag question, we came across some yet to be reported information regarding the status of Mets’ 2009 top draft pick, left-handed starting pitcher Steve Matz. Our first question this time is from Ben M, who writes: Ben M:  On January 18, 2012, MMO did an interview with Steven Matz, who at the time was optimistic about his recovery and return...

MMO Fan Shot: Ojeda Comes Down Hard On Mets Approach At Plate

SNY analyst Bobby Ojeda came down HARD on the Mets new philosophy at the plate with regard to heir approach at the plate during tonight’s Mets pre-game show. For those that missed it, Ojeda ripped into what he called “this business of taking so many pitches” that the organization has forced the players to adopt. “SWING THE BATS!” he repeated throughout his respinse to...

System Failure: No End In Sight For Mets Bullpen Implosions

In eleven save opportunities, the Mets bullpen now has five blown saves. That’s not a typo – Five blown saves to go with six saves for the season so far. Every time that bullpen gate opens, no matter who emerges from it, the odds that they will protect any size lead is a little bit better than 50/50. A revamped bullpen you say? The Mets saw fit to expend 75% of their available...

Can Ike Davis get his groove back?

The Mets have a good chance to beat up on the Phillies as they head to there band box, I mean ballpark tonight for the start of a 3 game set in the city of brotherly love.  Side bar…who finds that handle odd?  OK back to the Mets and what happened yesterday. If you didn’t get a chance to watch the Mets/Dback afternoon game with dickey and his Knuckle ball , you missed a...

Bullpen Wastes A Solid Outing From Gee In 5-4 Loss To D-Backs

Dillon Gee pitched a strong six innings, but the bullpen failed yet again in the Mets 5-4 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Recap Dillon Gee went six strong innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out six, walking three and hitting a batter. Gee didn’t seem to have his best command on the day, but he managed to get the anxious Dbacks hitters to swing at numerous...

Mets need to find rotational depth

Photo by Michael BaronRotational depth was my concern this spring; it seems like every year the team signs some journeyman pitcher who has had a degree of success in the majors.  From Brian Lawrence to Freddy Garcia, just like every other team they add depth.  This year the Mets went even more modest then in past years, assigning the extra starters roles to Miguel Batista, Jeremy...

How does Thole handle Gee and other questions I’d like to see asked

Here at Mets360 we write about the team every day and we do it without access to the players. This has its advantages and disadvantages and it is silly to pretend otherwise. Having first-hand quotes gives stories a legitimacy that they would not have otherwise and frequently there is value to the insight given by players. But we do not have to play favorites nor hope that player...

Mets 4, D-backs 3: Rubber Game Tomorrow

The New York Mets (14-13) defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks (14-14) by the score of 4-3 today. The Mets forced a rubber game tomorrow with the win today. The Mets played well today. Johan Santana, who didn’t have his best stuff, pitched seven innings while allowing three runs and nine hits. He battled like always, and gave the Mets a quality start. The Mets gave Santana run support...

Mets 4, Diamondbacks 3

NEW YORK -- With just enough runs to support him, Johan Santana finally got his first win of 2012 as the New York Mets held off the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 Saturday before 30,253 at Citi Field. The two-time Cy Young winner, for whom the Mets had been shut out in four of his first five starts, took advantage of a four-run Mets outburst in the fourth inning as he improved to 1-2...

News Flash: There Is A Baseball Team In Buffalo

It’s a place that the Bisons haven’t been since early in the 2010 season, but after a 6-5 win over Syracuse last night they now find themselves alone in first place in the IL North for just the eighth time since becoming the New York Mets’ AAA affiliate. However, no one has really been out to support this young group of talented ball players. Sure, the average attendance is...
