Daily News.
Alderson wouldn’t admit that he missed out on either player,
as he didn’t get into specific names. All he was willing to say recently is the
Mets “tried to do some things” this offseason, but “unfortunately, nothing worked

Sandy Alderson On Leadoff Position, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Ruben Tejada, Expectations
Joe D.
It’s been widely reported that Kirk Nieuwenhuis will be strongly considered as a leadoff candidate this season despite a 31% strikeout percentage, a low contact rate and on-base percentage, and a poor batting eye.
Assuming he could improve his on-base and strikeout rates a little, his batting eye still is what it is, and he doesn’t fit the mold of an ideal leadoff man...

Josh Kosman of the NY Post is reporting that the Mets won’t have much money to play with this season and are expecting to lose more than $10 million this year as well as suffering a fifth straight year of declining attendance.
“There is little room this year to raise salaries,” said a source familiar with the team’s finances told the Post.
Last week, principal owner Fred...
This past off season was mired in small moves. The Mets didn’t make the large splash everyone had hoped. Even GM Sandy Alderson admitted he had his eyes set on bigger fish but had to eventually resign himself to the fact that the current roster would have to suffice. Names like Justin Upton and Michael Bourn were the hot topics for the last few months. Fans and media, alike, were...
