A Mets spokesman announced that a sizable contigent will attend Gary Carter’s funeral on Friday evening in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. The group include Carter’s former teammates Wally Backman, Sid Fernandez, Keith Hernandez, Howard Johnson, Roger McDowell, Bobby Ojeda, Darryl Strawberry, Rusty Staub, Tim Teufel and Mookie Wilson, plus current players Jon Niese, Bobby Parnell, Josh Thole and David Wright. Alderson, Collins and assistant GM John Ricco also plan to attend. The family’s website announced the service today, and requested in lieu of flowers, that a donation be made to The Gary Carter Foundation, 580 Village Blvd., Suite 315, West Palm Beach, FL, 33409. Your donations will go to support the Autism Project of Palm Beach County, Hospice of Palm Beach County, and Palm Beach Atlantic University Baseball.
