Shaun Marcum is scheduled to make his next start, at least that is what the Mets announced on Wednesday, according to Chris Iseman and Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. The 31-year-old righthander with a long history of injuries underwent an MRI on Tuesday after experiencing tingling in his right hand after his last start, Terry Collins confirmed. "It's the same stuff he had in Spring Training," Collins said. "It tightens up in the upper back. But he pitched with it the other day. I don't know what inning it started bothering him a little bit, so we thought we'd get him looked at. He's fine." While Collins said that Marcum (1-9) will make his scheduled start Saturday in Milwaukee, he admitted he will keep Carlos Torres in reserve beginning Thursday night just in case he needs to make a spot start in Marcum’s place, wary of the "tingling" that Marcum experienced in his right hand during his last start. “The other night, when we took him out, he said he was starting to get tight,” the Mets manager said. “He said it was fine, but I said we gotta get it looked at; it’s a reoccurring thing. Since spring training it’s happened, so I want to get it looked at. “Fortunately, the MRI came back clean,” Collins said. “It’s a matter of . . . massages, cutting back his sides between starts, whatever will help to keep it from getting stiff.” Marcum missed the 2009 season following Tommy John surgery. He missed more than two months last season with the Brewers due to elbow and shoulder issues. This spring, he was diagnosed with an “impingement” in his shoulder and had issues with the nerves in his neck and shoulders. Marcum was signed this offseason to a one-year, $4 million deal. Marcum (1-9, 5.03 ERA) was a combined 20-11 for the Brewers the past two years with ERAs under 4.00 in both, but he hasn't been nearly as effective in 2013. The Mets...

Mets Fall Short In 7-6 Loss To Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers hung on to beat the New York Mets 7-6 tonight at Miller Park. What a difference a night can make. The Mets were able to contain the Brewer offense last night when they mustered a 12 run outburst, tonight they seemed unable to keep pace with the Brewers offense even though Yovani Gallardo’s fastball was straight and generally sat at around 89 – 90 touching...
