Found March 10, 2012 on Mets Merized Online:
The New York Mets announced on Twitter, that they have signed former prospect RHP Kevin Mulvey to a minor league contract. Mulvey, 26, last pitched in the Major Leagues with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2010 where he appeared in two games in relief. He has appeared in only ten big league games in his career going 0-3 with a 7.90 ERA. Once considered a highly regarded prospect for the Mets, Mulvey was traded to the Twins along with Deolis Guerra, Carlos Gomez and Philip Humber, when the Mets traded for Johan Santana before the 2009 season. Andy Martino of the Daily News, reports that a person who has been in ‘regular contact’ with free agent RHP Chris Young says he wants to return to the Mets, and that such a reunion ‘will happen.’ The oft-injured right-hander is feeling increasingly healthy, writes Martino and he has narrowed his choices down to either the Mets or Padres. Young, 32, made just four starts for the Mets in 2011, but was impressive posting a 1.88 ERA in 24 innings. Th...

Byrdak ailing, Mets considering C.J. Nitkowski on a minor league deal

With lefthander Tim Byrdak continuing to experience stiffness in his left knee , it seems that adding a little depth in the way of a lefty reliever is a likely move for the New York Mets.  According to Ken Davidoff of Newsday: Photo by Michael G. Baron Byrdak, the Mets’ best southpaw in the bullpen, said his knee has been bothering him since before spring training and that treatment...

There’s A Problem Rearing Its Ugly Head In The Mets Outfield

I love baseball and watching today’s Mets game on WPIX only served to remind me of how much I really dig this game, even when the games don’t count in the standings yet. After reading so much about Johan Santana‘s progress, what a thrill it was to see him firing strikes at will today against the Miami Marlins. Fastballs, changeups, sliders… he threw everything, but the...

Mets Jambalinka: Mike Pelfrey, Daniel Herrera, Brandon Nimmo

What was it that Andy told the warden in The Shawshank Redemption – I think it was – how could you be so oblique? That comment got him sent to solitary. Right now Scott Hairston, David Wright and Kirk Nieuwenhuis are in baseball’s solitary, as they are all out with oblique injuries. I think I’ve learned more anatomy following baseball than I ever did in school. Anyway...

Trevor Bauer: Peculiarity and potential

I can see it now: The Arizona Diamondbacks appearing this summer on Fox. And the pregame show -- the entire pregame show -- consisting of right-hander Trevor Bauer's warmup routine. Bauer, 21, is that unique, that refreshing, that compelling. His long-toss session before his start Friday was shorter than his usual pole-to-pole extravaganza. But a number of Seattle Mariners lined...

The Arizona Diamondbacks head into 2012 as favorites to win the NL West, but the division remains wide open, with all five teams having legitimate shots at making a run.
