The New York Mets had as nice a day as they could have hoped for on the afternoon in which they said good-bye to another season steeped in frustration.
Injuries to their two best players – David Wright and Matt Harvey – lengthy slumps and a patchwork outfield and bullpen all contributed to a fifth straight losing season.

Terry Collins said before the weekend, that it was unlikely that prospects Jacob deGrom, Rafael Montero and Noah Syndergaard will break camp with the team to open the 2014 season.
It’s not very surprising to be perfectly honest as money still guides every decision this franchise makes. The Mets will attempt to keep all three at bay no matter how well they perform this Spring or...
There was an interesting piece on FanGraphs a couple days ago about Vic Black — titled “Vic Black, Closer In Waiting?” You can already guess what the subject matter dealt with and it was certainly a good read. They jump-started it with a curious quote from LaTroy Hawkins, who spoke about Black:
“Some guys have late life on the ball,” the 40-year-old Mets reliever Hawkins...
The 2013 New York Mets baseball season is over. The games have come and gone and now we embark upon the most important off-season the franchise has had since 2005, if not ever.
The other thing that is over is my patience for the front office and ownership.
I have told anyone that would listen that as soon as the final out was made on Sunday, the buzzer would sound, signifying the...
Team Insiders Say They’ll Listen To Offers On __________.
Fill in the blank…
In this particular case, the player that Adam Rubin is referring to is second baseman Daniel Murphy.
The thing is, whenever the Mets say they aren’t trading anyone and only listening to offers, that player may as well pack their bags.
We heard that line a lot regarding R.A. Dickey last year, and get...
Not that this should come as a surprise to any of you, but despite this afternoon’s probable packed house to pay tribute to Mike Piazza, Mets’ attendance will drop for the fifth straight season.
Not counting Saturday and Sunday, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York crunched the numbers and calculates that with an average attendance of 26,467, the Mets rank 21st in the majors.

Noah Syndergaard was at Citi Field earlier this season for the Futures Game — where he looked very impressive in his short time on the mound. I was already in love with him as a prospect before I saw him on the mound at Citi Field — an actual glimpse into the future — and he made his return to Citi Field last night to receive a Sterling Award. If you missed the announcement...
During an interview on WFAN, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reported that the Mets will announce a new contract for Terry Collins on Monday, to return as the manager of the New York Mets.
The deal is expected to be for two years with an option for 2016.
Adam Rubin confirms that the deal, which is not yet complete, likely will be announced Monday as well.
When you think about young athletes that are blessed to be able to play the game of baseball, you never really think about what path they have taken to reach the levels they are in. You sometimes just take for granted and worry more about when will they actually make it to the big leagues. Some players are blessed to be able to have been signed right out of high school or college...
