TEAMS: Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padres, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners
As was posted on MMO yesterday by Pete Shapiro, rumors circulated that the Mets were talking to the Colorado Rockies and were possibly interested in catcher Ramon Hernandez. Today, Joel Sherman of the New York Post confirms and also writes that the Rockies’ veteran catcher is the number one priority on their wish list.
The Mets have Ramon Hernandez atop their wish list to upgrade at catcher, but team officials insist they see it as a salary dump by the Rockies and therefore will not offer up much of a prospect in return.
The Post was the first to report, in Sunday’s paper, the Mets are eyeing Hernandez, who was originally signed out of Venezuela by then-A’s general manager Sandy Alderson. The Mets also are looking at Boston’s Kelly Shoppach and Seattle’s Miguel Olivo as they prioritize finding a righty-hitting catcher with some pop to work in conjunction with lefty Josh Thole.
Sandy Alderson has said on a few occasions that the Mets were able to take on salary if they felt a partic...

Alderson On Chemistry, Valdespin, Trade Market, Harvey, Wheeler
Sandy Alderson was a guest during the sixth inning of this afternoon’s SNY Cubs vs. Mets broadcast. Gary Cohen hit him up with some great questions in the short time that he had, and ended up getting some nice insights into what the Mets GM is thinking about regarding a wide range of topics.
Matt Harvey: Alderson believes that Matt Harvey could be a viable option for the rotation...
Dillon Gee headed to DL with blood clot in right shoulder
Apparently this All-Star break is not turning into much of a break at all for the New York Mets. After the controversy of R.A. Dickey being slighted out of starting tonight’s game had somewhat settled, the team is now reporting that Dillon Gee will be placed on the disabled list after it was found that a blood clot in his right shoulder was causing numbness in his fingers.

The Atmosphere Around The Mets Is Shifting
There is something in the air around Citi Field, other than Flushing Bay at low tide. The atmosphere has lightened, almost imperceptibly. The gloom and black clouds that permeated the place are slowly, surely being dispersed. The dust of the previous three seasons is being blown out over the sea. Citi Field is starting to feel like home. I mentioned the feeling that this was...
Mets Prospect Spotlight: A Young Man Retires From Baseball
Tyson Seng
One day not too long ago, I was thinking back to a footnote on a transactions page from early May that I saw and it was still troubling me. I don’t like unsolved mysteries, and I couldn’t understand why a guy who went 3-1 with a 0.90 ERA, two saves, and a 32/5 K/BB ratio in his professional debut, would retire six games into his second pro season? So I asked him.

Val Pascucci Crowned Triple-A Home Run Derby Champ!
While Prince Fielder was winning the MLB Home Run Derby last night in Kansas City, Valentino Pascucci was making some noise of his own at Coca Cola Field in Buffalo where Scooch hit 22 home runs to win the Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby.
A crowd of 17,224 at Coca-Cola Field chanted Pascucci’s name as he hit six of those homers in the final round to secure the title over Charlotte’s...

The Miraculous Evolution Of R.A. Dickey
On Christmas day, 2009, the Mets signed an obscure knuckleballer named R.A. Dickey. The cynical Mets’ fans whispered to each other that the Wilpon family, owners of the franchise, were broke, as a result of the Bernie Madoff scandal, and all they could afford to sign was a mediocre 35 year old career nomad, who had been tried and discarded by four major league franchises. His major...

When the Disabled List is the Best Case Scenario
As a human, Dillon Gee is recovering from a blood clot in his throwing shoulder. I'm pleased that the Mets medical staff caught this quickly and that Dillon can recover from this because blood clots are as scary as it gets. I'm not a doctor, but this is as close to a relevant case that I could find on the internet (granted, I haven't looked too long.) As a pitcher, Dillon...
Tony La Russa screws over R.A. Dickey and David Wright
Tony La Russa's wrongheaded All-Star decisions have unfairly penalized not just R.A. Dickey, but also David Wright, and they have rewarded Giants fans for stuffing the ballot box.Buster Posey did not deserve to start at catcher over Carlos Ruiz and Yadier Molina. But because Giants fans voted Posey in, La Russa names another Giant who shouldn't be starting, Matt Cain, as...
Matt Cain, Not R.A. Dickey, Will Start All-Star Game
It must be great to be a San Francisco Giants fan.
Not only did a late push of fan votes elect three starting position players (Buster Posey, Pablo Sandoval and Melky Cabrera) to the NL lineup, but now the Giants will also have Matt Cain as the starting pitcher.
John Harper of the New York Daily News tweeted at 9:23 a.m. that “Source says Dickey is not starting All-Star Game....
Mets’ R.A. Dickey Should be All-Star Game Starter
With the MLB All-Star game a day away, the starting pitchers and lineups have been announced. The starting pitcher for the American League is Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers. The starter opposing him for the National League is Matt Cain of the San Francisco Giants. I have an issue with Cain being the starter [...]
