It’s most definitely not a good time to be a New York Mets fan right now. As a matter of fact, it’s an even worse time to be rooting for the Houston Astros. And, as it turns out, these teams will meet for a three-game series starting on Friday. The Mets have lost five in a row and ten of their last twelve, giving them a disappointing 57-68 overall record at this point in the season. They were just swept at home by the Colorado Rockies, for crying out loud. Maybe they can right the ship a little bit with a home series against the worst team in baseball in the Astros. To start the series off, Jonathon Niese will pitch for the Mets up against Houston’s Jordan Lyles. As far as MLB picks go, this should be a good chance forNew York to win, with Niese at 10-6 with a 3.49 ERA and Lyles a miserable 2-10 with a 5.70 ERA. It only gets better from there for the Mets as they then send out ace R.A. Dickey, who’s 15-4 and will certainly be challenging for the NL Cy Young award. Dickey’s pitching ...

Game Preview: Astros @ Mets

Well that last series wasn’t fun. There have only been two teams worse than the Mets since the All-Star break and that would be the Indians and the Astros, and guess who is coming to town. Seriously though, the Mets could use some wins here and they will try to do that behind Jon Niese as the Mets bats take on Jordan Lyles. Jon Niese is 10-6 this season over 24 games and 152.0...

Post Game: Mets 3 Astros 1

Despite being unable to wear his bracelets, RA was able to contain the Astros. The Mets snapped their losing skid today by beating the Astros by a score of 3-1. RA Dickey won his 16th game of the season as he hurled 7 innings of one run ball. While he only struck out 2, the Astros did not make much solid contact at all today. After Dickey was done, Jon Rauch and Josh Edgin combined...

Mets 3, Astros 1

R.A. Dickey helped his own cause for his 16th victory, driving in a run with an infield single and pitching seven solid innings Saturday as the New York Mets ended a six-game skid by beating the Houston Astros 3-1. Justin Turner hit his first homer of the season and Jason Bay snapped an 0-for-14 slump with an RBI single in the eighth to end a stretch of offensive futility for the...

KNUCKLEBALL! Opening Soon At IFC Center In NYC

FilmBuff Presents KNUCKLEBALL! A film by Ricki Stern & Annie Sundberg **Opening on Thursday, September 20th at the IFC Center in NYC** KNUCKLEBALL! is the story of a few good men, a handful of pitchers in the entire history of baseball forced to resort to the lowest rung on the credibility ladder in their sport: throwing a ball so slow and unpredictable that no one wants anything...

Houston Astros (39-86) @ New York Mets (57-68)

The Mets are on the cusp of being exactly what we thought they would be; a basement dweller that makes baseball fandom absolute torture. With a golden opportunity to avoid such depression against the hideously bad Houston Astros, the Mets try to better than image in whatever way they possible can. This Astros lineup is so weak that you have to expect the best out of Mets pitching...

N.L. Cy Young watch, August

After a hot July, the MLB season has now gone into August.  With the new Wild Card spots in play, more teams have hope coming into the stretch run.  And, with more playoff births, more aces are trying to pitch their teams into the postseason.  For the beginning of August, I’ve taken the list of Cy Young contenders down from ten to eight.  I am also looking more in-depth at...
