Tonight begins the start of a three-game road series for the Mets against the San Diego Padres. The MLB odds are in their favor for the opener, but what about for the remaining two games?

Game one is a dandy, with R.A. Dickey on the mound for the Mets and Clayton Richard, one of San Diego’s most reliable starters, going opposite him.

Dickey has been nothing short of spectacular this season and currently owns a 14-2 record, 2.83 ERAS and 1.03 WHIP.  He kept the Arizona Diamondbacks under wraps in his latest start and will look to do the same against an inferior hitting team in the Padres.

As for Richard, he struggled a little more than usual in the month of July, but overall he’s been solid, especially at home. He’s 4-4 with a 3.71 ERA in nine starts there.

The Mets will have a much tougher game on their hands the following day as they send out Jeremy Hefner against Padres ace Edison Volquez.

Hefner hasn’t done too shabby as a fill-in starter for Johan Santana, but he still has a 5.52 ERA in 44 innings of work this season.

As for Volquez, he’s been great, having allowed three or less runs in five of his last six outings. He’s been exceptional at home as well, recording a 2.84 ERA. The Padres have to be the favorite to take game two, backed by their star pitcher.

Last but not least, the series closes with Matt Harvey up against Jason Marquis.

Harvey, one of the Mets’ top prospects, has been better than advertised at the top level, surrendering only two earned runs through his first two starts. New York will like their chances of wrapping up their trip to San Diego with a win, considering Marquis is 6-10 with a 5.54 ERA and 1.54 WHIP  this season.
