Hanley Ramirez felt strongly enough about a negative write-up in the Dominican newspaper “Hoy” to fire off a response on Twitter. Franklin Mirabal in what appears to be an opinion piece writes that Ramirez’s friendship with Jose Reyes inevitably will be damaged. Ramirez is moving to third base to accommodate Reyes, who the Marlins signed to a $106 million contract. Mirabal goes on to say the signing was a way for the Marlins front office to frustrate and cast down Ramirez. In Mirabal’s estimation, it’s a show of disrespect and the Marlins ultimately will jettison Ramirez, who he says has not matured sufficiently to take on the face of the franchise role the Marlins were counting on when they gave him a $70 million deal. Mirabal criticizes Ramirez for not taking on a leadership role. Ramirez’s response via Twitter (translated from Spanish): ”Folks, via this medium I want to let everyone know that what came out in the newspaper Hoy about me, t...

Miami Marlins SS Hanley Ramirez Still Not On Board With Move To 3B

The Miami Marlins signed marquee free agent shortstop Jose Reyes with the intention of moving the team’s incumbent star, Hanley Ramirez, to third base. While it all sounded well and good, as new manager Ozzie Guillen figured that signing Reyes gave the Marlins a better chance to win and fill the seats, Ramirez is reportedly still not yet on board with changing positions. The...

Miami Marlins: Anibal Sanchez not concerned about multi-year deal

Marlins starter Anibal Sanchez doesn’t sound all that disappointed about not landing a multi-year deal, and probably for good reason. Sure, the security would have been nice, but he’s fresh off beating the Marlins in arbitration and landing the largest ever award ($8 million) given to a starting pitcher. “Everybody thought they were going to say a lot of things...

Scott Cousins switches to No. 6 for J.T. Snow

Scott Cousins will now be wearing No. 6 for the Miami Marlins, a tribute to his favorite player growing up: former Giants first baseman J.T. Snow. Why the switch? He wants new teammate Aaron Rowand - another former Giant - to keep his usual No. 33 when spring training begins. Cousins is already in Florida well ahead of the Marlins' first full-squad workout under new manager...

Missing Yoenis Cespedes may be a positive for the Miami Marlins

A lot of columnists may grow scorned when their favorite team misses out on a big name free agent. They will comment on how that player would falter anyway, and flip completely when they had hope of a signing. Oakland Athletics CF Yoenis Cespedes surprised the world of baseball when he was scooped up by the Oakland Athletics in a last second deal. All directions pointed directly...

Jose Reyes feels bad for Mets, comes to grip with their decision

Dan Martin of the NY Post caught up with Jose Reyes who said he's come to grips with the way his days with the Mets came to an end, but it's still tough for him to take. LoMo? No. LoSythe? Yes.

There’s a player by the name of Logan Morrison down in Miami (still getting used to that team name) who’s garnering plenty of attention and for good reason. In six minor league seasons, Morrison hit: .290/.381/.464 (.845 OPS). This past season, his first full big league season, Morrison put up: .247/.330/.468 (.798 OPS). He walked 10.3% of the time, struck out 18.9%, and slugged...

Cubs should count on accountability from new regime

MESA, Ariz. — Among the pitchers and catchers reporting for spring training Saturday for the Cubs, you won’t find any C.J. Wilsons, Mark Buehrles or any other big-ticket free agents. Or Carlos Zambrano, for that matter. In fact, the Cubs are spending more money this season ($15.3 million) to make sure Carlos Zambrano pitches somewhere else (Miami) than they are on any one other...
