Update: MLB.com elected to remove the ability to embed the video of Miguel Cabrera’s ejection after previously allowing the option. It can be viewed at MLB.com. With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the third inning of the Detroit Tigers’ series finale with the Philadelphia Phillies, Miguel Cabrera took exception to back-to-back strike calls and home plate umpire Chad Fairchild wasted no time ejecting him. After the Tigers loaded the bases with one out, Cabrera stepped to the plate following a Don Kelly pop-up. The first two pitches were strikes, but were borderline and Cabrera voiced his opinion on them. He was not overstated in his argument, but seemed to casually disagree. Fairchild ejected Cabrera with no confrontation and then ejected manager Jim Leyland when he came out to defend his player and ask for an explanation. It was the fourth time in his entire career that Cabrera had been ejected, third with the Tigers, and it was done by an umpire Tiger fans will remember well. Fairchild, as you may remember, ejected Leyland and Luke Putkonen from a game against the Chicago White Sox after Putkonen threw behind Alexei Ramirez. The ejections were controversial in that game since neither bench had been warned when Sox starter Chris Sale threw at the head of Prince Fielder. Matt Tuiasosopo replaced Cabrera, fought to make the at-bat 2-2 and then struck out on what looked like ball three. The Tigers would strand the bases loaded to end the inning. Kelly took over the duties at third for Cabrera.
