Two-time reigning American League MVP Detroit Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera has told the Detroit Tigers that he’d rather play1B rather than 3B in 2014.  Mike Axisa of CBS Eye on Baseball and Brian Manzullo of the Detroit Free Press reported a tweet from Cabrera’s native Venezuelan baseball reporter Manolo Hernandez: “I’ve told the #Tigers I want to play 1B”: AL two-time MVP @MiguelCabrera to Venezuelan daily newspaper El Universal (@EUDeporte) — manolo hernandez d. (@beisbolporgotas) November 27, 2013 With the trade of 1B Prince Fielder, the Tigers are undergoing a remodel of a team that reached the 2012 World Series, and the 2013 American League Championship Series.  But the mode of operation is still to win now as Ian Kinsler certainly brings additional offense to their middle infield.  It makes sense to move Cabrera, who isn’t known for strong defense (but is probably better than he gets credit for).  Also, especially in 2013, Cabrera was breaking down physically by the end of the season and relieving him of the physical duties on the hot corner would most definitely benefit his offensive production. The final driver will probably be what other free agent moves Tigers GM Dave Dombroski is able to pull off.  There are a few key 1B free agents on the market that would fit nicely into the middle of the Tigers lineup.  Not as many available at 3B.  There is also 4-time All-Star c/1B/DH Victor Martinez who needs a place to play from time-to-time. There are a lot of puzzle pieces left to fit into the 2014 Detroit Tigers puzzle, Cabrera has expressed his desire, but at the end of the day, he’ll do what it takes to finally win a World Series in the Motor City. - David Whitlock Related Articles: Miguel Cabrera winces on first inning swings, leaves game Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland: Miguel Cabrera is playing hurt 2013 MLB Most Valuable Players announced Be sure to like our Facebook Page Or follow us on Twitter - David Whitlock Follow @lhd_on_sports - Blog Follow @RBTS_baseball - Sports-Kings Follow @realsportskings The post Miguel Cabrera expresses desire to move to 1B sooner than later appeared first on Reading Between The Seams.

Tigers not yet committed to moving Miguel Cabrera to first; decision coming soon

Who’s on first? Who’s on third? The Tigers continue to say they’re not yet sure, even in the wake of reports out of Venezuela that Miguel Cabrera has informed ballclub brass he is open to moving back to first. “We are not prepared to answer that question yet,” Dave Dombrowski, Tigers president and general manager, said in an email to The News. Dombrowski also would not...

10 Reasons Detroit Tiger Fans Ought To Give Thanks

The Detroit Tigers mean a lot to me. I have been fortunate enough to shake Al Kaline’s hand, witness Lou Whitaker hit one onto the roof in 1984, see Sparky Anderson walk slowly toward the third base dugout before a game in Texas and hand a ball to the youngster on my left, watch Justin Verlander shut down the New York Yankees in the 2012 ALCS with the rowdies in Kaline’s corner...

Tigers rumors: Miguel Cabrera wants to play first base again

With Prince Fielder headed to Texas, the Detroit Tigers have an opening at first base. Current third baseman Miguel Cabrera has the right man in mind: himself. On the Thanksgiving edition of MLB Tonight, MLB Network analysts Fran Charles, Mitch Williams, and Tom Verducci reported that Cabrera has told his team that he wants to return to first base where he played most of his games...
