To no one’s surprise Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera was named the American League Player of the Month for May after batting .379 with 12 homers. This keeps him on pace with another potential Triple Crown as he leads the American League in batting average (.367) and RBI (65). Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder is also in the running for a starting spot on the American League squad as he’s about 117,000 votes behind Baltimore’s Chris Davis who also leads the AL in home runs with 20. Cabrera’s teammates seem to be doing their part to ensure the reining AL MVP and Triple Crown winner is right there to contend for both titles yet again.
