Tigers pitcher Jose Alvarez carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning Sunday against the Cleveland Indians in his Major League debut.  Odds are, he wasn’t going to keep Cleveland hitless for nine innings, but former Tiger Ryan Raburn had to go ahead and ruin it early.  Raburn hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. And Miguel Cabrera made him pay for it, sort of.  As Raburn was passing Cabrera on his trip around the bases, Cabby hit him with his wad of gum. via SB Nation It’s good to see that Raburn cracked a smile and that he’s having some success in his new home. Through 35 games and 106 at bats with the Indians, Raburn is hitting .292 with seven home runs and 20 RBIs. However, the Tigers got the last laugh today as they won 4-1. And they hold the upper hand on Raburn’s Indians as they sit 5.5 games up on them in the AL Central. GIF via SB Nation

Cabrera tosses gum at opponent

Apparently, Miguel Cabrera is a fan of history. We all know about the story he wrote in the record books last season, winning the AL Triple Crown. And he may have had the best game of this season, too, with his monster Sunday nighter in May . But this past Sunday, he missed out on history and did what any loyal teammate would do -- he threw gum at an opponent. Tigers pitcher Jose...

Miguel Cabrera Throws Gum at Ryan Raburn After Indians Outfielder Breaks Up No-Hitter (GIF)

Pitching a no-hitter in your big-league debut would be a pretty big deal. Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera was, naturally, frustrated...

Alvarez impressive in major-league debut

Detroit -- It's pretty difficult to fill the shoes of Anibal Sanchez but rookie Jose Alvarez did a near-perfect imitation in his major-league debut Sunday. In front of a sellout crowd of 41,262 at Comerica Park, Alvarez appeared cool, calm and collected as he limited the Cleveland Indians to one run on three hits in six innings while walking one and striking out seven in a 4...

Game 2012.61: Indians at Tigers

34-26, 4.5 games up on Cle. (never mind the bad digital editing in the image above) Another good win for the Tigers yesterday afternoon, another poor showing for Valverde. Fielder’s bases clearing double put the Tigers in the lead for good, and Ricky P turned in his 3 straight quality start (and 7th in 10 games) to bring his ERA below 9. He’s a fantastic #5 guy. Remember all...
