Throw out your WAR (wins above replacement player) stat.  Throw out your “well, he had more protection” line.  Throw out your “well, he is far from the best defensive player at his position” argument. Jose Miguel Cabrera Torres is the most valuable player in the American League.  Period.  Hands down.  End of story. .348 batting average.  .442 on-base percentage.  44 home runs.  137 RBIs.  193 hits.  103 runs.  And he did it with a torn abdominal muscle for the better half of the last two months of the regular season. He’s going to down as one of the best (the best?!)  hitters ever to play the game.  During his acceptance speech, if you will, Cabrera acknowledged the player that Angels young stud outfielder Mike Trout is.  ”He’s the best player in the league,” Cabrera said. “He’s got everything.” Trout finished the year with a .323 batting average, .432 on-base percentage, 27 home runs, 97 RBIs, 109 runs, 190 hits and 33 stolen bases. Here Cabrera is with his family in his backyard in Metro Detroit right after the announcement was made.  Oh, Detroit doesn’t have palm trees  Here he is with his family in Miami right after the announcement was made. via mlb.com
