Baseball may not be the most physical of sports, but it sure as hell can wreak havoc on a man's body. Mike-lowell1

Poor Mikey Lowell is a prime example.  The 37-year old is facing his 2nd hip surgery in 3 years (and will most likely have to endure a complete hip replacement at some point).

Via WEEI:

After initially thinking he would postpone any further surgical procedures on his right hip, former Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell will undergo a 'resurfacing' of his already surgically-repaired hip in New York Friday. The operation won't include a hip replacement, which does figure to be a possibility for Lowell at some point.

“Without medication or pain management I don’t think I can run 50 yards right now, I know I can’t," he said. "I don’t want to be taking meds to go about my day-to-day life. I feel like my quality of life is going down a little bit. I want to teach my kid how to run the bases in Little League instead of just standing there. It seems trivial but it bothers me that I can’t do it.”

I have no idea what a hip "resurfacing" means, but it sounds awful. As does being 37 years old and not being able to run around the basepaths with your kids.

Our thoughts are definitely with you, Mikey.  Here's to a speedy recovery...
