With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning in yesterday’s Royals-Yankees game in the Bronx, Royals’ third baseman Mike Moustakas sealed the 3-1 win for his team by making a great catch along the foul line to record the last out of the game. Moustakas, who was brought into the game in the seventh inning for defensive purposes, tracked the Lyle Overbay popup and made a terrific lunging grab to end the game. Wade Davis is the worst starting pitcher in baseball. He just got bombed in New York in Kansas City’s 8-1 loss to the Yankees. He’s 4-8 on the year. Most importantly, his atrocious 5.89 ERA is higher than any other MLB starter.
On the surface, it’s hard to explain Davis’ poor performance. His strikeout rate has zoomed since last season’s stint in the bullpen...
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Royals on Thursday called up left-hander Donnie Joseph, acquired last season as part of the Jonathan Broxton trade to Cincinnati, and placed right-handed starter Wade Davis on paternity leave.
Davis, who gave up all eight runs in Wednesday's 8-1 loss to the Yankees, was not in line for another start until after the All-Star break anyway.
But with his...
KANSAS CITY, Mo. Former Royal Jeff Francoeur signed a minor-league contract with the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday, which may make some fans wonder why the Royals simply didn't option Francoeur to Triple-A Omaha as insurance to the possibility of a major injury to one of their big-league outfielders.
Francoeur, though, was a five-plus years player in terms of service time...
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- With outfielder Jeff Francoeur no longer a Royal, the subject of what to do with the Frenchy Quarter section of Kauffman Stadium has come up often in the past two weeks.
The Royals say they have the solution: Let the fans rename it, then promote it like the Frenchy Quarter had been since 2012.
The Royals are giving fans three options:
GordoNation (named for...
After May, it looked like another typical Royals season. But approaching the All-Star break, the Royals are around .500 and within striking distance of the A.L. Central. It’s a position the Royals haven’t been in since 2003, when they had marquee names like Darrel May, Ken Harvey and Desi Relaford (those were the days). The team is playing better baseball, but they’re not playing...
NEW YORK -- Jeremy Guthrie neatly handled a nemesis and a long rain delay to pitch into the seventh inning, Billy Butler homered and the Kansas City Royals beat the New York Yankees 5-1 Monday night.
All-Star Alex Gordon, David Lough and Johnny Giavotella each had RBI doubles, and Alcides Escobar added a run-scoring triple to help the Royals end a five-game skid against New York...
James Shields wiggled out of early trouble and got home run help from Billy Butler and David Lough as the Kansas City Royals sent the New York Yankees to their third straight loss, 3-1 Tuesday night.
Center fielder Lorenzo Cain contributed four nifty catches, defensive replacement Elliot Johnson ranged a long way for a grounder and Kansas City backed Shields (4-6) with a pair of...
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- You'll have a hard time convincing designated hitter Billy Butler that the Royals are not for real.
Butler says he truly believes the Royals as an organization are on the right track, and that the Royals will be a factor in the American League Central in the second half.
"I just like the direction we're headed," Butler tells FOXSportsKansasCity...
Andy Pettitte has not lost to the Kansas City Royals in nearly 14 years. Ervin Santana hasn't been able to beat the New York Yankees as a starter in almost five.
The Yankees would certainly like both trends to continue Thursday as they go for a split of this four-game home series after breaking out of an offensive funk.
Pettitte (6-6, 4.37 ERA) has gone 10-0 with a 3.43 ERA...
It’s come to this for the beleaguered Giants. Signing a player that not even the Kansas City Royals wanted.
The Giants and outfielder Jeff Francoeur agreed to a minor-league contract. The team hopes he can give the slumping outfield some kind of boost eventually. Easier said than done. He was DFA’ed by the Royals last month after hitting .208 with 3 homers and 13 RBI in 59 games...
It’s sort of been this kind of year for the Yankees.
New York’s up-and-down season on the field spread to the rest of the organization Monday night when the evening game against the Kansas City Royals was blighted by rain in the fourth inning. As is customary, the grounds crew jogged on out — but it failed to do so promptly enough, because the tarp the workers were trying to...
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas came up through the minor league system with Eric Hosmer, and he's here to tell you that as hot as Hosmer has been lately, we haven't seen anything yet.
"There's a lot more coming from him," Moustakas says, nodding toward his clubhouse neighbor's locker. "He hasn't even reached his full potential...

After getting back on track with a series win, the Cleveland Indians would love to push the Kansas City Royals further behind them in the AL Central.
The Indians go for their fourth win in six games Friday night when they take on the Royals in the opener of a three-game series at Progressive Field.
Following four straight losses and six in eight games, Cleveland (48-44) bounced...
