Mike Trout became a victim of shenanigans courtesy of Orbit, the mascot of the Houston Astros, ahead of Tuesday’s game at Minute Maid Park.

And to the Los Angeles Angels slugger’s credit, he had a great sense of humor about it, laughing with Orbit upon learning he’d been played as a victim to a funny prank.

Orbit approached Trout on the field before the game and under the auspices of the giving the ballplayer a hug, the mascot taped a “I ♥ the Astros” sign to the slugger’s back.

Once Trout discovered the nature of Orbit’s ruse, a grand time was had by one and all.

Oh, sports mascots. What wisenheimers.

It warrants pointing out that it’s a good thing for Orbit that Trout didn’t react like the NBA’s Robin Lopez to the sign-based, albeit somewhat different, shenanigans employed by Orlando Magic mascot Stuff the Magic Dragon. That wouldn’t have been good for Orbit, that’s for sure.

In the end, Trout got the last laugh, smacking an RBI double in the Angels’ 5-2 victory.
