Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson returned to New York last night in the Broadway debut of his one-man show “Undisputed Truth”, running through August 12 at the Longacre Theater. The 46-year old Tyson, originally from the rough streets of Brooklyn, opened the show with a welcome and a comical promise. “Welcome to my living room. You will all leave with two ears.” The audience, which included celebrities such as New York Yankee stars Derek Jeter, C.C. Sabathia and Curtis Granderson, Donald Trump, Spike Lee, who directed this Broadway version of Tyson’s autobiography that premiered at the MGM Grand in April, Ahmad Rashad, Jake LaMotta and Tony Danza, were guests in the champion’s ‘living room’ for the following two hours. With images displayed on the large screen behind him, Tyson took us through the photo album of his life. The soft-spoken and reflective Tyson shared various memories and stories, starting with his mother whom he admitted he did not remember much about beyond her...

From MLB.com: Yankees manager Joe Girardi said the team would consider bringing Brett Gardner back in a limited role once rosters expand in September. "If there's a way that he can help us, we'll definitely use him, especially in the month of September, when you can expand rosters," Girardi said. "If there are certain things that he can't do and it...

Yankee Stadium debuts Ichiro-inspired food

If anything can be taken from Ichiro Suzuki’s stint thus far with the New York Yankees, it’s that the 38 year old star still has some left in the tank. Apparently the Yanks feel quite good about acquiring him, and are now paying tribute to him with his own food dish at Yankee Stadium. MLB.com reported that the “Suzuki Roll” has made its debut, much to the delight of fans...

Letter to the Editor: Let performance dictate usage!

Buffalo News (New York) July 29, 2012 Dear Editor,The Yankees have lost quite a few games that could have been won without a pitching change. It happened again Sunday in Oakland. It seems manager Joe Girardi often leaves pitchers in too long or takes them out too soon.Example: A relief pitcher or set-up man comes in and retires the side with no problems. He is removed after one...

The Quiet Performance Of Hiroki Kuroda

When Felix Hernandez throws a 1-0, complete game, two-hit shut-out, that is about all you’ll hear about from that game. However, if you look at who threw against Hernandez you’ll find that Hiroki Kuroda held his own against the former Cy Young winner. Kuroda went 6 and 1/3 scattering 7 hits while giving up only 1 run. Kuroda walked just one Mariner while striking out four demonstrating...

BP Unfiltered: Efficient Felix by Ben Lindbergh

On Saturday afternoon, Felix Hernandez shut out the Yankees at Yankee Stadium, allowing two hits and two walks and striking out six. That in itself is a very impressive achievement, given that the Yankees have scored the third-most runs per game in baseball this season, and also given that Yankee Stadium is not a particularly pleasant place to pitch. (The Yankees had averaged over...

Mariners 1, Yankees 0

Felix Hernandez dominated the Yankees in their own ballpark again, pitching his third shutout of the season to lead the Seattle Mariners to a 1-0 win on a sunny, sticky Saturday afternoon. Hernandez outpitched Hiroki Kuroda in a duel of pitchers who haven't lost since June. Mike Carp hit an RBI single in the second inning for Seattle, which bounced back from having its seven...

Ichiro gets double against Mariners with help from the sun (Video)

New York Yankees outfielder Ichiro Suzuki got credit for a double after hitting a pop fly ball that Seattle Mariners center fielder Michael Saunders lost in the sun during Sunday's game at Yankee Stadium. Your browser does not support iframes. It happened in the bottom of the seventh inning as Saunders tried to fight the sun to make the play, but the ball landed at his...
