In last week’s Minor Accomplishments, I highlighted Mike Olt, his .304/.404/.576 slash line, and his 12 homers.  Well, in only a week’s time Olt’s already-impressive numbers have became drastically more impressive.  After blasting six more homers, he’s raised his SLG to .624 and his RBI total now sits at 48.  He’s hotter than any hitter in the minors right now and he’s surely forcing the Rangers to consider their options regarding his future.  We’ve discussed this plenty, but with Beltre locked up for the long term, Olt’s path to the majors as a 3B is thoroughly blocked.  Frisco has been giving him some time at 1B, and given Mitch Moreland’s struggles, Texas could absolutely consider using him there.  All along, however, I’ve looked at Olt as a valuable chip to be used in a potential trade.  Recent uncertainties in the Rangers’ rotation have me thinking they’ll most certainly dangle Olt as trade bait in the coming months. Simmons making a big league impact

Andrelton Simmons can't remember much about his first major-league homer. The ball he hit was an off-speed pitch that sort of hung over the plate. OK, he recalls that. There were handshakes with the Braves' two base coaches. Yeah, that's customary. But other than that? Nothing, leaving teammate Jason Heyward to fill in one of the blanks. "First row. That'...

Braves activate Jones from DL

The Atlanta Braves activated veteran third baseman Chipper Jones from the 15-day disabled list, the team announced Sunday. Jones, who has announced he will retire after 19 years with the Braves, had been suffering from a left leg bruise. He was back in the third spot in the batting order against the Toronto Blue Jays. He was hitting .307 with five homers and 24 RBIs before he...

Teheran to fill in for Hudson against Blue Jays

Julio Teheran will be recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett to fill in for Tim Hudson for the Braves on Sunday against the Blue Jays. Hudson has bone spurs in his left ankle and said Saturday he had a cortisone shot Friday. Manager Fredi Gonzalez says Hudson may start Wednesday against the Yankees. Teheran, the Braves' top prospect, is 5-2 with a 3.15 ERA in 11 starts at Gwinnett...

Ankle problem keeps Hudson from making next start

Right-hander Tim Hudson is bothered by bone spurs in his left ankle and will miss Sunday’s start for the Atlanta Braves. The Braves will promote right-hander Julio Teheran from Triple-A Gwinnett to start in Hudson’s place against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Hudson, who is coming off a 1-0 shutout victory over Miami on Tuesday, received...

Braves beat Jays, welcome Bronx Bombers

Dan Ugga's on-base % stands at .388 (top-10 in NL). On June 11, 2011, it was .245. One word to describe the Braves in 2012 is streaky. For good and bad, so far the Braves seem to be grouping their wins and their losses. Heading into a 3-game series with the Blue Jays, the Braves had won 4 straight. They added to that streak by taking the first 2 from the Jays, but ended their...

Heyward scores in 10th, Braves beat Blue Jays

ATLANTA (AP) -- Jason Heyward stole third base and scored on catcher J.P. Arencibia's throwing error in the 10th inning as the Atlanta Braves beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-3 on Friday night for their fifth straight victory. Heyward opened the 10th with an infield single off Francisco Cordero (1-4) and moved to second on pinch-hitter Jack Wilson's sacrifice. With rookie Andrelton...

Braves 5, Blue Jays 2

Tommy Hanson shut down another AL East team, Dan Uggla hit a three-run homer and the Atlanta Braves beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-2 on Saturday for their season-best sixth straight win. Braves rookie shortstop Andrelton Simmons hit his first career homer off Drew Hutchison (5-3) in the seventh. Michael Bourn had three hits. Jose Bautista hit a two-run homer in the sixth, the only...

Uggla's HR powers hot Braves past Blue Jays

Minor League Monday: Hasta Luego, Julio!

Ode to Julio Teheran: Atlanta, if you're gonna bring him up, don't have him face my former employers. Also, as good as Teheran was last year, he has quietly not been that good this year. That being said, he's 21 years old. He's the youngest starting pitcher in all of baseball now. And I'll tell you what, when it's all said and done? Teheran is going...

Braves 4, Blue Jays 3(10)

Jason Heyward stole third base and scored on catcher J.P. With rookie Andrelton Simmons...

Braves' win streak halted by Blue Jays

ATLANTA (AP) -- Brett Lawrie and Colby Rasmus each homered and drove in three runs and the Toronto Blue Jays rallied from an early four-run deficit to beat the Atlanta Braves 12-4 on Sunday. The Braves' six-game winning streak ended even though they led 4-0 after three innings. Blue Jays left-hander Ricky Romero lasted only four innings. Toronto took the lead with six runs...

GIFcap: Web Gems – Smith Robs Homer, Prado & Wright Go Bare Hand, Pennington Saves

Seth Smith with defense out of nowhere. Martin Prado can’t use his glove on this weird bounce, but gets the out anyway. David Wright doesn’t have need for leather. Just found this Cliff Pennington play worthy of being seen
