The Tribe Daily:
WHAT'S THE NEWS
We've reached the final day of the regular season for just about all of our minor league teams. Mahoning Valley finished their regular season yesterday, but they are prepping for the playoffs. Columbus and Lake County will play their final games today, while Akron joins Mahoning Valley in preparation for the playoffs. Remarkably Kinston has a glimmer of hope and we'll go over that in a bit.
Playoff news will be up tomorrow. I'm definitely making a point to try and get to an Aero game, but this week is going to be a little sketchy. Hopefully they make it to the Championship.
COLUMBUS
Jordan Brown went off in Columbus' win over Toledo.
Brown was 2-3 with two solo home runs, including a walk. Call him up! Jordan has a .005 lead over Don Kelly of Toledo for the league batting title.
Stephen Head had two hits and Mickey Hall and Donnie Webb had two RBI.
Yohan Pino continues to dominate, even with a new club. Seven more shutout innings, just five hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
The Clippers wrap up their season in Columbus tonight against Toledo.
AKRON
Akron pulls off yet another win, hopefully this hot play is going to carry into the postseason.
Connor Graham started and went five innings, giving up two runs off eight hits and five walks. Typical...
Carlton Smith got the win and Josh Judy with save 11.
Carlos Santana and Beau Mills went back-to-back in the sixth innings with solo shots. Santana also had a double on the day while the suddenly power-heavy Johnnie Drennen hit a solo shot as well.
Aeros play a Labor Day afternoon special to finish the season at Canal Park against Erie. They kick off against Reading on Wednesday in the first round.
KINSTON
Well guess what.. I figured it was impossible.. But Kinston has a shot thanks to their win over Potomac.
A six run sixth fueled the indians win over Potomac. Two RBI days from Adam Davis, Ron Rivas, and Mark Thompson in the lower half of the lineup. Roman Pena and Lucas Montero also knocked in runs. Montero had three hits and Mr Plankton, Davis, and Rivas had two hits each. Oleeeee had two doubles.
Paolo Epsino got his ninth win. Dave Roberts and the bullpen did a good job. Two scoreless for Roberts, Cawiezell with one scoreless.
That win over Potomac yesterday and a Salem loss has put the K-Tribe just a game back of Salem. With another one of those days, the two teams will play a one-game playoff on Tuesday. Salem's first pitch is an hour after Kinston's at around 1:00. Kinston has to win and Salem has to lose for the one-game playoff to happen on Tuesday. Go K-Tribe! Nick Hagadone will start.
LAKE COUNTY
A nice caper for TJ House's season as the Captains win a Cappy specialty, 2-1 over Hagerstown.
House went six scoreless, just five hits, but three walks, and four strikeouts for the young TJ House. Jose Urena with two innings and no earned and Kaimi Mead with a scoreless ninth for his first save.
Two hits for Chris Nash and Jeremie Tice each, including a double. Bo Greenwell stole a base and knocked in a run.
Lake County is in Hagerstown to finish the season at 2:05 in the afternoon.
MAHONING VALLEY
The Scrappers dropped their final game of the regular season to State College in a big way, 14-4.
The Valley's runs came from a three-run shot from Tim Palincsar and three-hit one RBI day for Juan Aponte. Two-hit games for Jesus Brito and Casey Frawley.
Preston Guilmet started and went just 1.2 innings giving up four runs before being pulled. The bullpen all got collectively shelled. Tim Palincsar even pitched an inning, and he only gave up one unearned run. He also struck out a batter.
The Valley gets to take Monday off until they travel to Brooklyn for the first game on Tuesday.
