The Tribe Daily:
What's the News?
With Michael Brantley being sent down to Columbus because of Russell Branyan, the Clippers will definitely need to make a move. Most likely they deactivate one of their outfielders, likely Brian Horwitz. That's going to be one fast outfield with Brantley, Crowe, and Constanza, if they all play out there together one a given night.
COLUMBUS
It took them awhile, but Louisville finally beat Columbus for the first time this season. The Clippers did fall to the Bats on Monday in the series finale, 8-2.
Columbus added their two in the ninth inning by RBI hits from Trevor Crowe and Jose Constanza. Crowe had two hits, Constanza a triple and Chris Gimenez added a double.
It was rough-ish for Carlos Carrasco who went just five innings in this one to take his first loss. Carrasco gave up three runs, one of them unearned, off three hits and three walks with his usual high strikeout number of 7. He did commit the throwing error however.
It got worse from there as Steven Wright got tagged for four runs and Carlton Smith gave up one as well.
The Clippers next travel to Toledo for a quick two game series. Hector Rondon takes the mound.
AKRON
Akron may have matched Altoona in hits with 10, but they couldn't match their 10 runs as they fell 10-3.
Nick Weglarz returned to the lineup after a battle with the stomach virus circling the clubhouse to hit two doubles and score a run. Beau Mills also doubled and knocked in a run and Cord Phelps continues to rake with two more hits and a RBI.
Johnnie Drennen tripled and knocked in the other run for the Aeros.
The Aeros committed three errors in this one, with Phelps, Mills, and Jared Goedert all committing their first of the season. It only caused one unearned run to starter Scott Barnes, who went four innings, gave up seven runs, six earned, off seven hits and three walks.
Omar Aguilar pitched an inning and managed to give up two runs without even surrendering a hit. Aguilar simply couldn't find the zone and ended up walking three.
Bryan Price finally had a calm outing going two scoreless to end the game and help stop the bleeding.
Connor Graham will go for the Aeros as they try and bounce back against the Curve on Tuesday.
KINSTON
It was six straight for Kinston last night, but even though they lost 4-1 to Wilmington, they got a gem from their pitcher.
I'm sure the Indians are just ecstatic to see Kelvin De La Cruz pitch six no-hit innings of baseball with just a single walk and four strikeouts. Run DLC missed most of last season and therefore most of his progression time at Kinston. He's expected to make that jump to Akron at some point and his first good start of the season will certain help that process.
Santo Frias came in and surrendered a solo shot to untie the game and then was let down by yet ANOTHER Ron Rivas error at short, his eighth, yes eighth, of the season. Frias gave up four runs on the day, but only the solo shot was earned.
The K-Tribe mustered just three hits, one of them by Karexon Sanchez to knock in the only run. Cristo Arnal would also double.
Nick Hagadone goes for Kinston in their next contest as the series against Wilmington continues.
LAKE COUNTY
Alright I'm done with it. Bo Greenwell cannot be stopped and we're just going to leave it there. Lake County won again to improve to 11-1 as they destroyed Fort Wayne 12-6.
Greenwell went 3-4 with a triple and a three-run home run. He also knocked in five runs on the day and walked once. He's now hitting .468 on the season and is on one serious hot-streak.
Casey Frawley had most of the other support knocking in three runs. Chris Kersten hit a solo shot and had two hits on the day and even though he isn't getting the attention Greenwell is, Jeremie Tice is just as hot. He had four hits on the night and scored two runs to up his average to .436.
Joe Gardner had an interesting night. He gave up a grand slam in the second inning, walked three, but then settled down from there on out to have a final line of five innings pitched, two hits and eight strikeouts. I also believe the first fly ball out was recorded against him.
Nick Sarianides picked up win number two with two plus scoreless.
Chris Jones will start for Lake County in their series opener against Great Lakes in East Lake.
