Today’s schedule is highlighted by the third start of the season from 18-year-old Luis Heredia. Jamestown had their game last night suspended due to rain in the second inning. They will finish that game before playing today’s regularly scheduled game, which will now be seven innings. Heredia threw five shutout innings in his season debut (Photo Credit: Nick Scala) AAA: Indianapolis (56-31) vs Louisville (42-44) 6:45pm Probable starter:  Graham Godfrey (6-4, 5.04) Yesterday’s Result: Indianapolis 4, Louisville 1 Graham Godfrey will make his third start for Indianapolis and seventh start overall this year. He has also pitched four times in relief for Indianapolis, throwing a total of 18.1 innings, with a 2-1, 7.85 record. Before joining the Pirates organization, Godfrey was 4-3, 3.83 in four starts and nine relief appearances for Pawtucket. In his last start, he went five innings, giving up two runs on two hits and a walk. AA: Altoona (36-46) @ Binghamton (50-29) 6:35pm Probable starter: David Bromberg (3-8, 3.29) Yesterday’s Result: Binghamton 4, Altoona 2 David Bromberg will make his 12th start of the season tonight. He has also pitched five times in relief. On the year, he has pitched a total of 76.2 innings, allowing 74 hits, three homers, 32 walks and he has 81 strikeouts. In his last start, Bromberg allowed three earned runs on six hits and three walks in five innings. He started against Binghamton on 6/7, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks in six innings. High-A: Bradenton (31-49 overall, 5-7 2nd half) vs Fort Myers (51-27) 6:30pm Probable starter: Orlando Castro (1-0, 7.20) Yesterday’s Result: Ft Myers 5, Bradenton 2 Orlando Castro will make his third start for Bradenton tonight. In his first game, he went five innings, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks. In his next start, he allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks in five innings. For West Virginia this year, he made 13 starts, going 74.2 innings, with 65 hits allowed, just six walks and he struck out 63 batters. Castro has walked just one left-handed batter all season and hasn’t allowed a homer to a lefty all year. He started the SAL All-Star game. Low-A: West Virginia (45-38 overall, 8-5 2nd half) @ Hagerstown (46-34) 7:05pm Probable starter: Luis Heredia (1-0, 2.00) Yesterday’s Result: Hagerstown 4, West Virginia 1 Luis Heredia will make his third start of the season tonight. He pitched five shutout innings in his opener, allowing just one hit, while walking four and striking out five batters. In his second outing five days ago, he went four innings, giving up two runs on six hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Last year for State College, he went 4-2, 2.71 in 14 starts, with 40 strikeouts, a 1.52 GO/AO ratio and a .224 BAA in 66.1 innings. Short-Season A: Jamestown (8-5) vs Mahoning Valley (6-9) 7:05pm Probable Starter: Shane Carle (0-0, 4.50) Yesterday’s Result: Jamestown was suspended in the second inning Shane Carle will make his first professional start today. He has pitched three times in relief, throwing a total of six innings, with five hits, one homer and no walks, while striking out four batters. In his last outing, he threw two shutout innings, allowing just one hit. The 21-year-old, 6’4″ right-hander was the Pirates 10th round draft pick this season. Rookie:  GCL Pirates (5-5) vs GCL Tigers (3-2) 12:00pm Probable Starter: Miguel Rosario (0-1, 3.86) Yesterday’s Result: Pirates 3 Yankees 2 (game one) Yankees 3, Pirates 2 (game two) Miguel Rosario will make his third start of the season today.  He went four innings in his debut, giving up two runs on two hits, one walk and he struck out six batters. In his last game, Rosario allowed four runs over three innings, though just one run was earned.  He spent last season in the DSL, where he made just three appearances. Rosario pitched 6.2 innings, giving up two runs on four hits, two walks and six strikeouts. DSL: Pirates1 (14-12) vs Mets2 (15-12) 10:30am Yesterday’s Result: Pirates1 6, Mets2 5 in six innings DSL: Pirates2 (13-12) vs Reds (10-16) 10:30am Yesterday’s Result: Pirates2 5, Reds 1 Recent Transactions 7/1 Casey Sadler placed on disabled list. Mel Rojas activated from disabled list. 7/1 John Kuchno added to West Virginia roster. Pat Ludwig promoted to Bradenton. 7/1 Colten Brewer placed on disabled list. 6/28 Zack Thornton sent to Altoona and Ali Solis sent to Altoona. Duke Welker, Oscar Tejeda and Tony Sanchez sent to Indianapolis. 6/27 John Kuchno sent to Jamestown.
