The Pirates have released Eric Avila.
Catching up on all of the minor league transactions from the last few days.
**Jerry Sands and Matt Curry are both on rehab assignments with the GCL Pirates.
**Eric Avila has been released by the Pirates. The third baseman was hitting for a .234/.259/.414 line in 111 at-bats this year. He was doing well in the month of June, with a .339/.383/.554 line in 56 at-bats. However, he was mostly crushing lefties, with a .548 OPS against right-handers on the year. He also had bad defense at third base. Being a lefty platoon option in Triple-A is one thing, but it’s totally different if you’re doing it in A-ball.
**Alen Hanson and Zack Von Rosenberg have been placed on the Bradenton DL. Hanson had a minor leg injury earlier in the week, and it will obviously keep him out for longer than a few days (the minor league DL is 7 days minimum).
**A few draft assignments:
-Jerry Mulderig, Andrew Dennis, and Adam Frazier have been assigned to Jamestown.
-Nick Buckner and Billy Roth have been assigned to the GCL.
**David Jagoditsh has been placed on the Jamestown DL.
**Roberto Espinosa has been transferred from Bradenton to Jamestown. Espinosa was in Bradenton providing short-term relief help.
**Yhonathan Herrand has also been released by the Pirates. He threw 1.2 innings in three games with the GCL Pirates this year, walking four. Herrand has hit 97-98 MPH in the past, but has horrible control of his fastball, and that wasn’t showing any signs of improvements. The Pirates signed Herrand a few years ago for $280,000.
