Less than twelve hours after the Yankees lost out to the Cubs in the bidding for Jorge Soler, the team’s High-A affiliates met, and the Cubs came out on top 5-0. Worse yet, the Yankees managed to scrap out just two hits, and only had three at-bats the entire night with runners in scoring position. Nik Turley started for Tampa, and it was an ugly performance from the former 50th round pick. Turley lasted just two innings, allowing four runs on five hits. As for the two hits, those were managed by leadoff man Ramon Flores and cleanup hitter Neil Medchill. Rob Segedin, who had not played since June 4th, went 0-for-3 with a walk.

New York Yankees: Gardner solutions

Ode to Brett Gardner. After a perennial sluggish start, the New York Yankees have smoothed out the kinks and are playing solid baseball again. This doesn’t mean the Yankees problems are solved but it does show fans that the Bombers can still compete at the top, which was once again somewhat in question not so long ago. At this point in the season, no team is home free. The likelihood...

Yankees get Garcia back and send Igarashi to minors

The Yankees were without Freddy Garcia for the weekend, but he’s back and the man that took his spot on the roster, Ryota Igarashi, has been sent back down to Triple-A. Garcia was on the bereavement list since Thursday to attend the funeral of his grandfather back in Venezuela. Igarashi made just one appearance over the weekend. He pitched one inning and allowed one run on...

Update On Pettitte's Hand

From Chad Jennings:Andy Pettitte had his left hand wrapped after today’s game, but he said he felt fortunate. He was fortunate to get out of the sixth inning, and fortunate to leave with no real concern about making his next start. “It’s swollen, and as soon as the swelling gets out, it’ll be fine,” Pettitte said. “It swelled up, got me up high on the hand, toward...

Cubs out bid Yankees for Soler with 9-year/$30 million deal

The Yankees were aggressive in going after the Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler, but they were ultimately outbid by the Chicago Cubs who landed him with a nine-year, $30 million deal, according to Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman. There were quite a few teams interested in Soler with the Yankees being one of the top four or five. There were said to be several teams that bid more than ...

Game 61: A-Rod Goes Grand in Comeback

New York Yankees 6 — Atlanta Braves 4   Alex Rodriguez begins the comeback rally in tonight’s 6-4 win over the Atlanta Braves.   Recently, CC Sabathia can be considered the weakest member of the starting rotation. Despite giving up 4 runs and 10 hits allowed, this outing was not a bad outing. 3 of [...]

Nothing but respect between Jeter, Jones

They were both young and full of vigor in 1996, two guys barely in their 20s and just starting careers full of promise. Chipper Jones and Derek Jeter met on the field that year as the Atlanta Braves and New Yankees played in the World Series. They both had the talent and tools and seemed destined for greatness, but it would have been tough for anyone to predict that they would...

Weekly game thread: June 11 – 17

The Yankees had a great week last week behind a resurgent starting rotation. They nearly swept the Rays and they followed that up with an actual sweep of the Mets. They also did fairly well for themselves in the draft, nabbing Ty Hensley with their top pick at least 10-20 picks after he was expected to come off the board. This week they’ll try to keep it going against the National...

Podcast Episode 10: Interleague Swan Song

After this season, interleague play as we know it probably will cease to exist. The 6-game season series between the Yankees and the Mets should be a thing of the past, and there should be no more large chunks of time spent playing teams in the other league. The Yankees just swept the first 3 games of the 2012 Subway Series and now enter into that large chunk of time playing the...

Report: Jorge Soler Could Sign a Deal By Monday

From the NYPost:According to an industry source, free agent outfielder Jorge Soler is expected to agree on a four-year deal before tomorrow. The Yankees don’t have Nick Swisher’s...

BP Unfiltered: Russell Branyan, Jack Cust, and a TTO Dream Come True by Ben Lindbergh

Some very prominent prospects are putting up some very pretty numbers in Triple-A. But you can have Adam Eaton's .398 average, Anthony Rizzo's 22 homers, Brett Jackson's eight triples, Anthony Gose' 24 steals, and Trevor Bauer's 11.8 strikeouts per nine. I'll take these two: That's half of the box score from Sunday's Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees...

Yankees-Braves Preview

Three weeks ago, the New York Yankees were at the bottom of the AL East following their worst stretch of the season. The club now has a chance to move back to the top of the standings. The Yankees go for a fourth consecutive victory Monday night while the host Atlanta Braves try to start a new surge after their longest winning streak of the season was snapped. Since dropping six...
